We have one fob and would like another as back-up. Since the fob is programed to the specific boat how does one get another fob?

I have the same question... thanks for asking it Sails...

We bought an additional key fob from Bellingham Yachts. They are a VP service provider and a Cutwater dealer.
As I remember there were two options. The original key fob could be cloned off the boat. If you didn’t have the original, the new key fob had to be programmed on the boat.
Our key fob was the original. Bellingham Yachts did come on the boat to test it was working properly after their programming. Expect $200 or more.

Thanks Vickie and Al. But, I live on the East Coast, Savannah specifically so Bellingham is out of the question. How does one 'program' a fob and where can one get the procedure? I do not know if the one I have is the original, I think it might so if it is what does one do with that?

Ok, I’m not sure if we have the same setup or not but this is what I had to do;

Order a key fob. About $100.

21758351 VOLVO PENTA RF KEY

Then;

Key Management.
Adding or removing a key to or from the system can be done in either the Battery Control Panel or the 2.5", 4" and 7" displays. A system can have up to four keys, which are numbered from 1-4.

Adding a key
  1. Navigate to the menu Settings > Key Management.
  2. When the text “Show e-Key For Authorization” is shown, hold a key that is already registered in front of the key panel. The system will check that the key ID corresponds to a key registered in the system.
  3. Select “Add a key”.
  4. When the text “Show e-Key To Add” is displayed, hold the new key in front of the panel. The system will store the key ID.
  5. The addition of the key is confirmed on the display.

Thank you, I will check this out and let you all know if it worked. One more thing, American Flyer: by the 2.5 etc. display I am assuming you are referring to the Volvo Penta screen which on my 2015 R-27 is in-between my Garmin GPS and the auto pilot screens.

Everything from “Key Management” down is copied from the Volvo Penta operating manual for my engine (available online from Volvo Penta). Again, this is from my engine manual, yours could be different, however I believe they started using this system for most marine engines around 2011 so yours should be similar enough.

Yes, it is referring to whatever type of Volvo engine display you have. The key is strictly part of the Volvo Penta system. It is not connected to the boat or Garmin in any other way.

EZY PEEZY! Thank you all. It took me five minutes and now I have two fobs. I also found a YouTube video explaining the process.
