Points North Seminar – April 9th, 2016, Elliott Bay Brewing, Lake City Way 9:00am - 4:00pm

Cruising season is upon us! There is no better way to prepare than our annual Points North Seminar. The seminar will be held Saturday, April 9th 2016 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm in the downstairs conference room of Elliott Bay Brewery in Lake City, WA. Breakfast pastries, coffee, and juice will be provided courtesy of Global Marine Insurance. There will also be a one-hour break for lunch. Lunch is not included but you are welcome to order from Elliott Bay Brewery, their food is delicious.

We are excited to announce that Sam Landsman from Waggoner’s Cruising Guide will be leading the seminar this year. Sam will cover many topics including: popular Gulf Island and Desolation Sound cruising spots, clearing customs, anchoring, tides, currents, outfitting, stern tying, safety, Dodd Narrows, and much more. The seminar is a pre-requisite for anyone joining us on the Desolation Sound Cruise (participation in prior cruises also count towards the pre-requisite).

If you would like to attend the seminar, please email Marlene at: receptionist@rangertugs.com and she will add you to the list. There is no charge for Ranger Tugs or Cutwater Boats Owners. Space is limited.

We are excited to see everyone again!

The 2016 Points North Seminar is less than one month away! We still have spots left, if you would like to attend please email Marlene at receptionist@rangertugs.com. There is no cost for Ranger Tugs or Cutwater Boats owners and breakfast will be provided courtesy of Global Marine Insurance.

This year's instructor, Sam Landsman would like attendees to bring their Waggoner Guide and Ports and Passes books. If you don't have them, they will be available at the seminar for a discounted price.

Sam will also be bringing the new editions of Dreamspeaker's San Juan Islands and Broughtons guides. If you bring in your old copy of either of those you'll get 50% off the price of the new edition!

Sam is also encouraging attendees to email him directly with any specific questions that they would like him to address during the seminar. This is very generous of him and we really appreciate it! He can be reached here: sam@waggonerguide.com

See you April 9th!

If a non RT or CW boater attends, how much is the seminar?

We are signed up and we would like to know all about tieing up to the rocks and how that works? What we need to purchase for this. Thanks

Lisa, I am looking into that now and I'll get back to you shortly.

Pat and Sharon, I forwarded your request to Sam Landsman.

Thanks!

We attended the 2016 Points North Seminar today in Lake City, the session was outstanding. Sam Landsman of Waggoner Guide did a great job covering topics from A to Z. Having previously cruised extensively in Canada, including Desolation Sound, Jervis Inlet, Victoria, etc., we still picked up many valuable tips. As usual, the entire Ranger/Cutwater team did a great job in making this a first class event, providing a level of customer service that is so special and unique.

One question arose about Garmin software during the presentation. Ranger/Cutwater boats come from the factory loaded with navigational detail for U.S. waters only. Once in Canada, you need to have the chip for Canadian waters. Since we bought our 2013 R27 used last year, I checked to see what chip ours has. It says "Puget Sound to Port Hardy". This appears to be the enhanced chip that includes, in addition to our local San Juan Islands, the Canadian waters from the Gulf Islands all the way to the northern portion of Vancouver Island (Port Hardy). Since we have not yet taken the R27 to Canada, can anyone confirm if in fact, this is the enhanced chip that will work for the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, etc.?

Looking forward to the Poet's Cove cruise, and also targeting Desolation Sound this summer but our schedule may prevent us from joining the Tugnuts scheduled cruise in late July.

Great to see some familiar faces today and many new faces, and we hope to see on you on the water soon!

If you don't have it already you should get HomePort from Garmin. With that loaded in your home computer you should be able to load your chip in question and see exactly what it looks like.
