2016 Seattle Boat Show

Jim & Steve,

Thanks much for the great pictures of the R23. Wondering about the head configuration. Looks like the head door opens up against the entrance to the vee berth steps. Is there some type of sliding cover to close off the opening above this area when using the head or shower?

Jake:

I did notice a shower curtain that would arch around the area to enclose yourself in the head/shower. You are correct that the head door acts as a door to the stateroom while the shower/head is in use, then arch the curtain closed and you're ready to go.

Gentlemen, thanks for posting the pics of the R23.

My wife and I went to the Baltimore Boat Show this past Thursday, and while there was not a R23 on display, we did spend time checking out the Cutwater 24. The interior of both boats is almost identical. While it would be nice to have a separate door on the head, I don't think it is possible on a boat this size. The C26 has a door on the head as the head area is wider since the helm area seat is double-wide as it becomes part of the dinette seating.

The single head/stateroom door works great for day cruising, but is a compromise for overnighting. Still, a better alternative to having the bowl sitting in the V as is common on some other boats of this size.

Still can't wait for the opportunity to see a R23 in person!

Jim
p.s. I hope the company posts some performance numbers on the R23 with the Yamaha 200 Outboard. 😉

Looking a little more closely at this picture, it looks like a kicker hanging next to the main outboard. Is this maybe a 9.9 hp outboard for trolling?

Jim

It is a 9.9 hp and was on display on both the R24 and C24, as an option.

Noticed in pictures on the website, the CW24 has a sliding tinted panel to act as a ceiling to the head. No room on the RT23 for the same arrangement due to the vertical windshield, which is why I was wondering if the 23 had some other solution to totally enclose this area.

I also look forward to seeing some performance numbers. With a drastically different hull and 33% less hp (for the outboard) compared to the CW24, might be a big difference.

I haven't seen any performance data on the C24, but 300 HP on the C24 seems like a lot of power to me. 😱

I know that its not a like-to-like comparison, but here is a link, http://www.steigercraft.com/brochures/y ... /255DV.pdf to Yamaha's performance bulletin for the Steiger Craft 255 Deep V Miami. The Steiger Craft 255 has a dry weight of 5,300 lbs and a tested weight of 6,925 lbs. Top speed was about 48 mph.

My wild guess is that 300 HP on a C24 would yield a top speed of 45+ mph.

On Ranger's website, the R23 is on plane with the 200 HP. Guessing that one would see economical gas consumption with cruising speeds of about 8-10 mph, with the ability to go faster when desired. 🙂

Nice comparison Jim. I see per the specs, the CW24 is 100 pounds lighter than the RT23 with the outboards. So maybe the 23 would top out at about 40mph??? To me as along as it gets up on plane nicely, the top speed isn't much of a concern.

Great job by the Bellingham yachts and fluid motion teams at the Seattle show. Their display dominates the center of the show! The products outclass the competitors on features, design and value. So happy to have joined this community with a 28 in December.

The video of the cut24 on the website is with the diesel duo prop (220hp) That outboard powered boat must fly!

Thought it was interesting that every boat was there apart from the cut 26.

Thanks again for the pics. I just hope that Ranger Tug rep is a tall guy, otherwise there's gonna be a lot of head banging on that open pilot house window. 🙂

Jake

He was taller than me. I think at least 6'
