Forward and Aft Thrusters made by Sidepower
Does anyone know that year build records and tell me what the MODEL number is of the Sidepower AFT thruster? Probably same for all the 25 and 27's for that year.
I was docking the other day and I hit the aft thruster joystick gizmo and the motor sounded like it was overspeeding - no movement so I am thinking I may have sheared a shear pin or something so I can check with IMTRA and get a diagram and some guidance if I can just find out what model it is. I gave it a quick look in the engine compartment (motor end) but it is either obscured or it is on another place on the unit (unless you happen to know where to look?)
Would appreciate it much. My gut tells me it is not a hig deal if I can get proper information. Since it is aft, I have prop and rudder back there and still have the bow thruster so it is not catastrophic. That said, I need to figure out how to fix it when I bring it to my shop this winter. I hope this posts correctly ... having some weirdisms with my computer and this new site. Thanks in advance!!! Doug my cell is 360.616.1690 if someone can txt that info (if easier than replying to thread - totally up to you) and my email is pugwerks487@gmail.com

hello, this should be the info you need:

Not sure exactly what model but this info is for the R29 and should help at least diagnose if it's a shear pin issue

Each thruster motor has a shear pin that protects the motor if something is caught in the thruster prop.If this pin shears, then the motor may sound almost normal but no thrust is produced. The shear pin is held in place with a snap-ring retainer.

To access the shear pin, the motor is removed from its mounting plate. Make sure power is OFF before removing motor..

I contacted IMTRA and got shear pins and retainer ,,, going up to boat today and see what I am in for! Thank you for your help!!!

I’ve replaced forward thruster sheer pins a few times on my R27. It’s quite straight forward.

Thanks folks ... I am going to probably do it while I have it in my home shop this winter ... my R25 is really tight aft and since it is aft, not as big a casualty as if it were in front ....I ordered and received new pins and retaining rings and have a lot of snap ring pliers. This and putting neutra salt system in are my bigger winter projects ... but really wanted to thank you guys for the images and information ... I should be (famous last words) fairly well set to do this one. Fair winds and following seas. doug

I just completed this same task on my 2008 R25 and man is it tight back there. if you've never had it off, those bolts are going to be TIGHT and with a super small wrench it took a lot of muscle to get broken free. Hopefully you've got long arms. Bad part for me is that once I replaced the shear pin and dry tested operation, I thought I was good. Yesterday I went to the river to do a water test and after a 5-7 second on test...I think I sheared it again. I'm going to be taking a closer look at the tunnel/prop blade area for any potential sources of resistance but frustrating that after all that work it sheared again. I'm waiting for a response from IMTRA to see if they have any additional guidance...hoping there isn't something more going on.
