Looks like we're on-track for record registrations again this year. We're looking forward to catching up with friends and meeting new Tugnuts.

For anyone planning to cruise via the Swinomish Channel to Roche Harbor, be advised that there will be intermittent closures of the railroad bridge at the North end of the channel through November. You'll find a link for the schedule posted to this thread: http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9130.

UPDATE: NEW REGISTRATIONS: 147 BOATS - 284 CREW MEMBERS!

160 boats is an incredible number and we are really excited about attending for the first time! I am actually quite familiar with Roche Harbor and I'm just wondering how they have managed to free up the slips and/or dock space for such a number. Do we end up rafting or? If that's the case, what happens to those people who want to leave early?

:?

Hi Chimo,

you're right, 160 is a huge number and that doesn't even include our factory boats! Each year we reserve the entire guest dock and promenade. We are working closely with Roche Harbor to make sure everyone is comfortable and will have a great time.

If you plan on leaving the dock at some point during the event you need to tell Roche Harbor when you radio in. Not because you will be rafted but because the long slips fit three boats end-to-end and sometimes it's not practical for the first boat to get out.

At this point we are planning to med-tie our factory boats on the promenade. If there is anyone else attending that would be interested in med-tying with us email me: sambisset@rangertugs.com or just reply to this post.

Now that we're back from the Desolation Sound cruise, it's full speed ahead to the Rendezvous and we can't wait! It's going to be a great time! See you in September.

Sam

Hey Sam:

It will be interesting to watch how several factory boats do the 'Med Mooring'....(Mediterranean-style). Will it be a dignified event.

Wow, this is incredibly impressive! I hope you guys get some good video - anyone with a drone? (or a helicopter)

Stories too please.

If I can master my drone in time I'll certainly try to get some interesting aerial shots.... and maybe if I can I'll do time elapsed animation to capture the Factory boats med-mooring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwvs1apgBBk If they lay down their anchors the rest of us need to be careful passing their bows. 😱

Sorry all, I should have clarified... no need for anchors here. We use aft and midship cleats to tie the boats to each other and to the dock. It actually works really well. You can step straight back off the swim platform onto the dock. If you have a dinghy mounted on the swim platform we just take it off and tie it to the dock at the end of the line of boats. That way you have easy access to your dingy also.

If you've been to the rendezvous in the past couple years you've seen us with the show boats tied like this. Here is an image: http://www.rangertugs.com/Userfiles...ory-Rendezvous-Roche-Harbor-19-vsm-700--N.jpg

We will put a factory boat on one end that will serve as the anchor by being side-tied to a dock. Outboard boats take a little different approach but still possible!

Sam

See you all there, it is always a great event, thanks Sam and Bruce.

We actually had to tie up this way at Comox - it was easy and it worked great to get 3 boats into a small dock space

Hmmmm, when docking like this is the dock fee based on the boats beam size ? 😉
