Hi all,
Can someone please tell me what the make and specifications of the factory installed 6 AGM batteries are?
Thanks,
Sonny

Hi Marnis!

The AGM batteries that would be in a 31 if ordered as an option would be the UPG Universal UB121100L Group 31 batteries. Hope this helps but let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks!

Thanks so much Ralf.
Best,
Sonny

I need one for the starter, too. 2017 R31 CB. Where to order? I couldn't find it on amazon (with the "L) after the letters.
Thanks,
Bobby

I never found the "L" either, but went with these

and they worked just fine. As for a starter, I found the CCA on these batteries too low to crank the Volvo D4 reliably, so upgraded to a higher CCA battery and have had no problems since.

I opened the link. It leads to a group 30 battery. I'd really like to find the correct group 31, if that is possible. I don't know a lot about batteries...

Thanks,
Bobby

I just ordered this battery because I could not find the "L" version anywhere.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088L5AKS/

Further research shows that this is a group 30. What is the difference? And will it be too low of CCA to be my starter battery? My engine is the Volvo 300 hp.

Thanks,
Bobby

The batteries in my 2019 R31 are all marked UB121100. No "L" in the model number. But not all UPG batteries with that model number on them are the same. From a quick glance at the manufacturer's website, there seem to be at least five versions of that battery, with the difference between them being the kind of terminal mounted on the battery (and, from the photos, the handles differ as well). Here's a link to the manufacturer's product page:

http://www.upgi.com/products/product-by-category/?cat=SLA

The battery that matches the terminals on my boat is UPG No. 45824. Here is a link to the spec sheet on that battery.

http://files.upgi.com:8086/UPGFileService.svc/GetSpecSheet/45824

The link above to the battery on Amazon's website shows the same terminals that are on my batteries. The other link shows a battery with different terminals (although they look like they would work on our installation). Finally, for what it is worth, the dimensions listed on the spec sheet match the general specification for a Group 31 batteries, I think.

Hope that is helpful.

the ones I linked to on Amazon have the flag style connector that my boat was shipped with.

I appreciate the link. I’m just wondering if because this is a group 30 rather than a group 31 would it have enough CCA for the Volvo 300 hp. Is that the engine you run and did you buy one of these as a starting battery? Thanks, Bobby

I personally would not suggest that battery if you are using it for a dedicated cranking battery. It is rated in amp hours instead of cranking amps and does well as a deep cycle battery. I have an Optima installed as an engine battery for our D4 300. It is an AGM battery but is rated as a high current cranking battery: 1125 cranking amps (900 CCA). I have used it for a couple of years now and never had the slightest problem starting since switching over. It can be used with the same charger and charging profile as the UPG batteries. (It is within a tenth of a volt of the recommended settings I believe.)

Ah right. Yes the CCA is not great especially when cold of the universals. I’ve seen recommendations for the northstar agm’s on here for that reason. As said above make sure the battery charging profiles are similar if mixing battery types.

It’s less about group 30 vs 31 but the CCA rating.

Another option as opposed to the northstar is Odyssey 31M-PC2150ST-M
