Is the steering on a 2018 R31CB hydraulic?
We noticed the steering was not as responsive as what we have experienced previously. There seems to be significant “play” in the steering wheel. Is there a fix for this?

The hydraulic system may have a slight leak at a fitting. Check your Helms for fluid level (small knob on top of the helm pump at steering wheel) If fluid level is down fill each helm accordingly. Steer wheel full starboard and then full port. Count the number of turns for lock to lock. If it doesn't lock hard you have to bleed the system. If it does you may be ok but you now have to find the leak. Normally it is one go the fittings. Three fittings back side of helm bridge, 4 fittings back side lower helm, (2) (Tee fittings Bridge lines and Lower helm lines meet), shadow drive fittings , Pump fittings, and fittings at the steering cylinder. Use a paper towel and wipe each fitting and look for evidence of oil. If the towel is clean,(Good )if the towel is wet tighten the fitting. Once you have inspected all the fittings and have a full helm you should be good. If the problem persists with no leaks, the system may need to be bled. 2018, new boat, If the Ranger dealer in your area is a servicing dealer I would get them involved.

Where is the shadow drive located in a 2016 R31? I looked behind both helms with no luck. Thanks

On my 2016 R31CB the shadow drive is accessed through the starboard cockpit locker. It is towards the front of the locker space up under the deck. Our boat does have cockpit steering. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
