2018 Trent Severn Ontario Rendezvous

Thanks for the info on Lefroy, Jim. We will give them a call to see if they can accommodate our truck and trailer for a month. And thanks, Mark, for confirming how great a deal this is.

By the way, our boating plan after the Rendezvous is to continue on to the Trenton end of the T-S Waterway, then head up to Kingston and revisit the Rideau Canal. Does anybody else have such an interest?

We have a trailer without sling notches on the bunks. Do we know if LeFroy can easily deal with that situation, or if they will allow parking of the truck and trailer if we utilize the nearby ramp?

This post is to answer Gregg and Kates question yesterday but is important for everyone attending the Rendezvous who needs to launch and or store a truck or trailer.

Ryan, from Lefroy Harbour in Lefroy, has a travel lift only, no fork lift, therefore if your trailer does not have slots you'll need to ramp launch. There is a ramp called Monto Reno, just a short distance away from Lefroy's. There is also a ramp next to the marina in downtown Orillia. Mark Renshaw says folks do park there truck and trailers there overnight….your call. Lefroy will not charge for parking of our trucks and or trailers at Lefroy Harbour during the Rendezvous. If you are cruising before or after the Rendezvous they'll charge a modest fee of $20.00 per week for storage. Ryan also stated that the travel lift operates from 8 A.M. until 5 P.M., Monday thru Friday. If you plan on using the travel lift you should call Ryan to give him a heads up, some time a couple of weeks before our event. Ryan Stovold's number is 705-456-2120 ext 23. Lefroy's is a full service marina so they have slips to rent before or after the Rendezvous.

Here is a link from Google Maps. If you zoom in you can see the trucks with trailers parked, and the ramp.. There are always trucks parked there all summer but it is not secure and I do not think good for long term.. But for the rendezvous it would work fine. You can see it is a short walk from the docks.

For anyone on the fence about attending the Rendezvous, I wanted to let you know the location and the facilities at the marina are second to none.. You are a very short walk from lots of stores and restaurants. The facilities at the marina were all totally rebuilt and opened last year, the showers are like a 5 star hotel...

As some of you know the Trent Severn waterway links Orillia with Lake Ontario in one direction and Georgian Bay in the other. It is part of the Great Loop you hear of. So technically from Orillia you could boat to anywhere in the world... (You may want a bigger boat for the Atlantic crossing portion of that trip 🙂 ) But you can boat to Florida and stay mostly in protected waterways except for a couple miles around Atlantic City. It really is the Gateway to the World !!

Both of these exist nowhere else so this is a bucket list type of thing.
I have been on both many times and still enjoy going each year. I prefer the Marine Railway as there is more docking and it is prettier there I think.

I have traveled a fair bit with my 29 and we always return to Orillia for the summer boating 🙂
I am looking forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones this year at the Rendezvous

Registration Update:

Since the last registration update we've doubled the number of people and boats attending and now stand at 16 couples, a significant increase. With only 2 weeks left on the original 30 slips being held for our Rendezvous we're over half way to filling this allocation of set aside slips. There are no guarantees we'll get any additional slips so please please please send your registration forms in before the end of May to secure dockage. After June 1st I'll ask for an additional allocation of slips but they made no promises if we'd get any or how many.

Attendee numbers update and misc. Rendezvous info.

We have one final week to make the attendee list for "guaranteeing" a slip in Orillia. So if you are the fence please call or email me to let me know your intentions, so we can work something out. After June 1st I may or may not be able to still get slips at the marina but I certainly don't want you to miss out if no more get allocated for our Rendezvous. Remember you will pay for 2 nights dockage and get the third night free…more later on when and how to pay for dockage. We have added a presentation by the Trent Severn Waterway about the history of the waterway, which will be great info for those cruising it after our event.

Rendezvous….new information!!

I have a few important items for those attending the Rendezvous in Orillia in August. I just spoke with the Harbour Master in Orillia to bring him up to date on our numbers and dockage payment. I will be providing the Harbour Master with a list of our attendees, boat size and name. He has agreed to wait until your arrival at the marina to make payment. The dockage is pay for 2 nights and get the third night free. The rate is $1.75 Canadian per foot and includes hydro (shore power to our USA attendees). If you are arriving before or wanting to stay after the Rendezvous you will need to make those specific reservation dates on your own.

While talking with Allan he said he would hold 5 more slips for us until June 15th. So if your names are not on the list below you still have an opportunity to attend. Call and or email me with your intentions or questions.

Also, how on earth does one get hydro == shore power ?

From Google I see...
Hydro is a common phrase among Canadians when referring to electricity. Most likely, it is still used today out of habit. However, it was commonly associated with electricity obtained from dams on rivers, water falls, etc. ... “Hydro” is a Canadian cultural term for electricity and gas.
 
The company we get electricity from is call Ontario Hydro. Started when all power came from Niagara Falls. Thus shortened to Hydro.
 
Most of our electricity in the PNW comes from Hydro as well.... but for whatever reason the "shore power" term is what is used here. Next time I talk with my Marina operations office I will test their knowledge and use the "Hydro" term with them over a fee coffee at their office. :lol:

Hi Jim,

First off I wanted to say how much I enjoyed your book. I read it on my computer while flying to Vegas a few months back.
My wife and I currently have a 28 ft Carver, and have been looking at upgrading sometime in the next couple of years.
We discovered Ranger Tugs three years ago at the Toronto Boat show, and just fell in love with them.
I'm curious what the policy is for non-owners visiting the Rendezvous.
I'd like to see the boats and hopefully get to talk with some of the owners.
Do you happen to know if there will be any boats from Lerfroy Harbour on display?

We have ordered a new 2019 R-29CB delivered this October to Key Largo. We will be trailing it up to Chicago for the summer. We would be very interested in the Ontario Rendezvous next summer. Please keep us posted.
