2019 Great Lakes Area Summer Rendezvous

Hello Fred, looking forward to seeing you again. I have made arrangements with Garmin to have reps in attendance to do software upgrades, answer questions n figure out minor problems. A Garmin rep will also be giving a presentation on Garmin products, etc. We’ll also have someone from Global Marine Insurance to review Marine Insurance and US Coast Guard safety inspections for those that have an interest.

Traveling to the Rendezvous .Our original plan was to launch the boat in Orillia Ontario and cruise to Charlevoix for the rendezvous. Upon further review we thought that was a bit ambitious to do in two weeks and enjoy all that Georgian bay and the North Channel has to offer. We are now planning to cruise up to Charlevoix from Racine. Leaving July 27 from Racine and cruising North to Port Washington and then Sheboygan. Our plan is to cross Lake Michigan to Ludington from Sheboygan. From Ludington we plan on stopping at at all the harbors on our way up to Charlevoix. If we have good weather days we may be a few days early. The way this season has been on Lake Michigan will be lucky to have that happen. If any Tugs or Cuts attending the rendezvous are cruising North on Lake Michigan to the rendezvous we hope to see you out there. After the Rendezvous we plan to head up to the North Channel for a day or two. We plan to load the boat on the trailer at De tour Village Michigan. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

A day or two in the north channel! You got to be kidding! But when you get there tune into Roy’s cruisers net on 71 at 9am each morning and hear the call ins from all the cruisers in the area. We will be there from June 26 to September 8 or so. Listen from wanderer and if we are close by we can join up. If you call in we will look out for you.

Will do! I know a day or two is a tease! We plan to spend a month next summer in Georgian bay and the North Channel.

We plan on heading out of South Haven Mi. & Going North to Charlesvoix. I'm guessing three days. Not sure if anyone is going that way.

Weather dependent. Two of us are heading out of Sturgeon Bay on either Sun/Mon to Frankfort, Then to Leland before going to Charlesvoix. Both wives are looking for a smooooooth ride.

Rob:

We were successful in trailering the soon to be re-Christened Jolly Rogers II to New Buffalo last Saturday. All went without incident, though I think my life was shortened a few years by the stress. (Admiral likes it because I'm over-insured. :?)

We are planning to go by boat. but have not yet settled on a date of departure. I think we'd prefer two longer days with just one night as a stop over. That's still way up in the air.

Will keep you informed as plans firm up.

Cheers,
Jim

Just spent a few days in South Haven. Hope it stops raining this year. Lake Michigan and the Black River are so high that another 8 inches of water and the docks will be awash. Word was that 80% of the municipal docks in New Buffalo were under water and unusable. Michigan City docks are still in fine shape but the East West breakwater is getting close to being covered. The sea gulls help keep it visible. I suspect there will be carelessly driven boats on top of that breakwall before the season is done.

On July 1st I have to confirm final dockage at the Charlevoix City Marina. After that date, if we have not filled the last 2 slip openings, any unassigned dockage has to be released back to the marina for normal transient dockage. So with that said if there is anyone remotely interested in attending I’ll need to know by Monday July 1st. For interested parties who want to attend or have questions I can be reached by this post, PM post, email or cell. This is the final notice!

FYI: docking the night before is filled up. Brent Reed recommended Boyne City on the east side of the lake, so I am going there the night before. contrary to the Michigan dnr guide, and contrary to the Boyne city website ("boyne city marina going onto state system effective 4/1/19") you cannot make a reservations at BC on the state dnr website. you have to call the marina directly (phone number on dnr pdf). then you will get a kid who asks your name and date, you give it, he says "ok". and you say, "that's all you need?" and he says, "yep". and then 30 minutes later he calls you back and says, "yeah, I need your boat lenghth, beam, depth, email, cell phone, and cc number" ahhh summer help............ 😀

FYI the 80% figure for New Buffalo slips underwater is a gross exaggeration.

We keep our new to us R29S there and would estimate no more than 30% of the slips are submerged. This is due to poor peninsula construction as much as high water. Though the water level is clearly not helping.

The New Buffalo Municipal Marina is very much in the 80% awash category featuring fixed finger piers which have not been raised with the Galien River and the lake itself.

I’ve got good news for one lucky Ranger Tugs/Cutwater Boat owner.....we have one opening available for the August 7-9 fun filled Rendezvous in Charlevoix Michigan. If you’re interested you can PM me, post here or email me with questions or thoughts.

Quick question. Are the reservations for 3 nights in Charlevoix...August 7,8,9 or two nights, August 7,8?

Thanks for all your hard work on this!

3 nights, Aug 7th arrival, August 8th n 9th, departure day is by noon on the 10th., which if you like art you’ll want to stick around that morning to tour the annual Waterfront Art Fair. At 61 years it’s the second oldest in Michigan and a wonderful visual experience.

Fellow Tugnuts heading to Charlevoix.

If you happen to still be in Frankfort (today Tuesday), I left my 50 amp adaptor at Jacobson’s marina in Frankfort. If you are still in Frankfort if you ask in the office they will give it to you and I can get it from you in Charlevoix.

Thanks. Brian and Gina “Godspeed” Cutwater 30S.

Brian,
I left there this morning but Jim Rogers is there until tomorrow.
I call him and he can bring it to Charlesvoix.
