2019 R27 outboard CO detector alarm issue

The CO monitor alarm in my boat seems overly sensitive. It sounds when I am taking fuel and the Yamaha F300 engine has been off for a minute or two.

In addition the alarm sounds (loud and distractingly obnoxious) when the boat is leaving the dock or taxiing slowly around the harbor—even with the door to the afterdeck and all hatches and windows closed. It sounds continuously for minutes on end not stopping unless I speed up and open all hatches, and even then it sounds for a long several minutes. This makes slow boating really aggravating especially when near wildlife.

Does anyone else experience this problem? Any suggestions for a better solution than running fast to clear the air? Thank you Tug Nuts for your help!

Sounds like it needs to be replaced. They're only good for about 3 years, sometimes less. They are easy to replace.

Hi Martin, and thanks for your quick reply. My First Mate (also my Admiral) and I have been watching your YouTube videos and always enjoy and learn from your great posts—you and your human and canine crew always inspire and entertain us and I know many others feel the same—thanks for taking us all Channel Surfing! I will look for a new CO monitor and carry on. Bravo Zulu!

Try a battery powered unit and see if you have same issue. I have an extra battery unit that I mount over the cabin door, just inside. It also shows % co. I've never had it go off unless I hold it near the generator exhaust during startup. So like martin said, likely a bad sensor.

Thanks Jcat—but I thought the CO monitor in my model is integrated with the galley propane feed valve and that valve will not open to let the LP gas into the stove and oven unless the monitor is connected and functioning? I am a pretty new third owner of this great vessel and I am always learning about her. Thank you for your help and support!

We turn on propane when we're using the stove/oven. We turn it off when we're done cooking. The propane leak detector pulls milliamps when propane is turned off. With propane engergized, it pulls 1amp. That may not seem like a lot, but that's 24 amp-hours a day which is about what the cockpit refrigerator would pull in a day.
It's also safer to not have propane energized other than when in use.
