Water is leaking from the front access cover of my hot heater. While I await repairs, is there a way to isolate the hot water heater so that I can continue to pressurize the cold side of the plumbing and use the fresh water system, even if it means going w/o hot water?

Thanks!

David

I dont know that there is a separate shutoff but if not you ( or your dealer) could easily add one in the line. Just know that other than this emergency you want to leave it open all the time so as not to burn it out. By the way..there is a reset button under that cover if you ever cannot get hot water and checked everything else. Very small button if same as mine.

Remove the inlet and outlet tubes and then join them together with a barbed fitting. This will bypass the heater.

Thanks much! I haven't even been able to get the cover off. It looks like 4 small recessed philips head screws. Is this correct? I even bought some new screwdrivers with smaller heads to ensure I wasn't stripping out with a larger driver, but still no joy. Hard to see in there even with flashlight so just verifying I'm not using the wrong tool!

You may have to unscrew n take down the forward ceiling panel as well, I do on our R29S.

UPDATE: I was able to access the heater thanks to the help from the forum. Turns out the large rubber gasket had split. Since parts are still under warranty, I will contact the manufacturer for a new one. Fingers crossed...

UPDATE #2

I was able to successfully replace the large gasket after getting a free (under warranty) replacement by Indel/Webasto. So at least I can re-pressurize my fresh water system - yay! I don't seem to be able to get hot water in port, though, as I no longer have power to the heater via the 110v panel (no indicator light when turned on). I have double checked my wiring, checked the 20A and 1A fuses, and the very small red button on the unit itself is flush with the housing so am assuming that means it is reset and not tripped. It doesn't seem to want to be pressed any further. Does it pop up when tripped?

Thanks as always,

David

I just went through trouble shooting and repairing the hot water tank on my R27OB. If the red button is flush with the top of the switch it's good. Make sure that the house CB 30 amp (shore power) has not tripped. For some reason mine tripped after I replaced the Tank Switch's when I applied shore power to the boat. I could find no reason for the House to trip the 30amp shore power CB and had no repeat in the last 20 hrs of operating the boat. Also check that all the wires are connected securely at the tank (power off). Hope this helps..

Mike

Thanks for all the help. All is working with the hot water heater, both using engine heat as well as electrical!
