2022 R27 fresh water system hot water tank replacement

Hello fellow Tug Nuts,

Has any R27 300OB owners replaced their hot water heater?
Our 2022 R27 300OB hot water heater is leaking and our freshwater pump will not prime (continues to run) due to not holding pressure. I do not see a bypass valve on my water heater and I am not sure the proper way to drain the tank before removal. I do not see any shut off valve in front of my hot water heater tank. It is a 5.3 gallon isotemp model and fairly simple. One blue cold into tank and one red hot out. But if I remove the blue water line from the tank, will it completely drain my main fresh water tank? I do not see a shut-off valve before the heater tank to shut water off. If anyone has experience with the 2022 R27 hot water tank replacement ? on another note, I do not see a bypass valve before the hot water tank.

As long as you don't have pressure, disconnecting the blue water line from the hot water heater will not drain your fresh water tank. For winterizing purposes I made up a short (6 inch) section of Pex with two connections on either end and then after disconnecting both the red and blue lines from the heater I used the short pex piece to connect the red and blue lines together. This allowed me to blow air through both cold and hot water lines to clear them of water. A similar setup will allow you to remove the heater yet still use your fresh water system.

Shut off the breaker to the water heater. Disconnect shorepower and you will want to turn off your Inverter disconnect switch in your port lazarette. Then disconnect the blue and red pex connections to the hot water heater. It'll drain the water out to the bilge. I do this annually for winterizing. It only drains what's in the tank and what's in the water lines. It will not drain your entire freshwater tank.

Disconnect the electrical to it, and remove the strap that holds it in. It'll come out. This is about 10 minutes worth of work.
