I have a 2022 Ranger Tug R23 with a F200 Yamaha. On a recent trip, I had 4 people onboard with 1/2 tank of fuel and a full tank of water. The boat had an extremely difficult time getting on plane and the water was like glass. The bottom was cleaned approximately 2-3 weeks prior. I had to get everyone forward in the cabin to get on plane. When I purchased the boat, I was told that it should provide a comfortable plane at 4200 - 4400 RPM and at WOT I should see around 6000 RPM. I don't think I have ever seen anything above 5200 RPM.

On this particular trip, I was WOT at 5000 and could only achieve max speed of 21-22 MPH. I played with trim and had 2 & 3 bars of trim. Looking for a bit of guidance here on how I can get better planing while at the same time a comfortable cruising speed. I am not that concerned about top speed as I never run that way. If I can cruise at 24-25 MPH comfortably, that would be ideal. Over to you....thanks!

Hi Lou, are you able to tell us what size prop is currently on the boat so we can verify it is the correct one? I should be listed on the prop itself.

Hi Lou, that is the correct size prop for that boat from the factory. Depending on how the boat is loaded, bottom paint and growth on the bottom could all have a huge play in the performance. If you're looking for a prop that may be better out of the hole I would suggest calling the prop shop and seeing if they could recommend a different prop.
