2023 Fluid Motion Factory Rendezvous at Roche Harbor

I'd even add on the topic of a VP session, that having a VP video series would be amazing.

I think many of us have watched the youtube videos Chuck made on then D4-300. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZZ7jeq0D5Y

but it would be great to cover some of the other items like transmission service which arent covered.

i think you might even find that people would pay to be a paid member of the tugnut community if they had access to extra educational materials like this.

Quick question, I registered for the Rendezvous booking Wednesday through Saturday out Sunday for a total of 4 nights. On the site it said that if you stayed Thursday through Saturday then Wednesday was free Moorage. It’s been a few years since I have stayed at Roche and have a R29. My charge came to $352.00 does this sound right for the Rendezvous or am I being charged for all four nights. I am paying for shore power.

Karll,
The 2023 “Summer” (May 4 – October 1, 2023) rate at Roche is $2.75 per night per foot with 30 amp power included. At 32 ft overall, that would be $88/night for your boat. Looks like you are being quoted for four nights guest moorage.

Just called and they said once we are up at the Rendezvous they will back one night off the bill. Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the clarification on moorage fees. We had the same question when the preliminary invoice was received.

As a newbie, really looking forward to it.

Hi All,

we're just over a month out from the rendezvous and there are still a few slips left. We'd love to have you join us at Roche Harbor for this fun event! There will be representatives from Yamaha, Volvo, and Garmin on site. There is a full seminar schedule, and we'll have all kinds of fun games and happy hour events.

See you soon!

Sam

Quick App question... I still have the app on my phone from the past meetups and currently the "Events" portion shows the past event of 2022 - will there be a new app to download for 2023, or will the existing app be updated with the 2023 event once it is ready?

Hi jadeddo,

The existing app will be updated with a new 2023 Factory Rendezvous Event soon. Once we make the event public within the app, you'll be able to join it through the same process as last year. We'll send out an email to the registration list with more instructions soon.

Thank you!

Hey Sam, or anyone that might have an answer,

I seem to remember, during my RT buying process, someone mentioning the possibility of joining a flotilla for the trip to Roche Harbor for the rendezvous.

My wife and I are brand new boat owners, and new PNW residents. We keep our new RT 27 at Everett. We're excited to attend the rendezvous but I'm especially cautious and frankly inexperienced at navigating. We might have time to make a scouting trip before the rendezvous, but in case that doesn't work out we'd love to follow some experienced folks there, on the 6th.

Barring any of that, can anyone suggest a particular route from Everett?

If anybody can either confirm or debunk the Rendezvous flotilla idea, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks very much!

Bumping post delayed in moderation queue.

Hi John,

We're excited that you're going to join us! Everett is great starting point, I would guess there are probably a dozen or more boats going to the rendezvous from the Everett Marina and Dagmars. I don't know that any of them have organized to cruise together but we should know soon if any of them post in this thread.

I'm not sure that any factory boats will be coming from Everett but if so, you could tag along with that group but they do usually cruise fast.

There are several routes you can take. I usually take Saratoga Passage> Deception Pass> Thatcher Pass> then between Crane and Shaw Island (not sure what the name of this pass is) >then enter Roche Harbor between Pearl and Henry Island.

Some people opt to take the Swinomish Channel which is an 11-mile, no wake channel that takes you from Skagit Bay to Anacortes instead of going through Deception Pass.

I'm sure others will chime in on this thread. I know I've read posts from Martin and LaZina mentioning pros and cons of each route. If you don't get the info you need here, feel free to give me a shout. sambisset@fluidmotionmarine.com

Overall, it's a great medium length, one-day trip from Everett to Roche. Not too long, not too short. Especially in an R-27. Looking forward to seeing you.

Hi John!

We will be cruising to Roche from Kingston, coming up Saratoga passage, on the 6th, and would enjoy joining a flotilla. We expect to go through Deception pass, as we have done several times now with no trouble.

While we are not the most experienced boaters either, we did go to Roche Harbor for the first time last year. We also made it to Ganges and Desolation Sound this year.

We have a R25OB and typically cruise at about 25 knots. We may wind up making a quick stop at Oak Harbor on the way up if some of our regular flotilla mates want to join in as well. I am sure there will be several boats coming out of Everett.

Look for me in Kingston this weekend, I see Dunwurkin is coming out so we should have plenty of time to chat!

Cheers,

Adam

Here is a tentative proposal for a float plan, adjustments can be made to accommodate anyone who'd like to join on the trip.

Solstice Shenanigans leaves Kingston at about 12:00 Noon on the 6th, getting to Everett at about 12:45 PM, then to Oak harbor an hour later at about 2:00. It is then a ~45 minute cruise to Deception Pass for a slack tide at about 3:00 PM. From there it is about an hour to Roche Harbor and I have posted the likely route from Deception Pass to Roche harbor in an image below, along with the current chart for Deception Pass.

This is just a stepping off point, we can make changes and the times are rough estimates, planning for 25 knot cruising speed, our mileage may vary.

Adam, Sam,

Thanks very much for responding to my post. Man, ask and ye shall receive!!

Adam, my wife and I would very much be interested in tagging along with you, up to the rendezvous. A noonish leave from Everett sounds fantastic. Please keep me in the loop as plans progress.

Regarding Kingston, this weekend...uhmm, I don't know how you heard we're going to be there, but, we're not. Sorry, we have family visiting from out of town. I'm wondering if Ray, the harbormaster, put us on the list. We ducked into Kingston about a week ago, coming home from a day on Lake Washington. The wind waves were too much for us to punch into for the three or for hours it would have taken to get home so we made a beeline for Kingston and nabbed a slip for the night. Ray saw our online request at the very last minute before he went to sleep and got us in for the night. When we chatted with him in the morning he was very interested in our boat and we had a nice long talk about Ranger Tugs and the upcoming gathering there. We told him we couldn't make it but he must have a vacancy that he penciled us in for, maybe? I don't know.

I think the family is out of here Sunday. What's going on at Kingston Sunday?

Anyway, thanks again for the tentative float plan. Standing by.

- John

Good Morning from Kingston! What a great turnout for the 2023 Kingston Cruise. I am moored next to "Dunwerkin". a 2017 R31S. I hope that explains it!

Steve figured it out, I had the wrong boat. No matter, we will still float with you if you like. Let's see if anyone else joins the thread. Otherwise I will confirm the times with you as we get closer to the date.

Cheers!

Adam

Ha! Unbelievable! Thanks for figuring that out, Steve.

When we were considering names for the new boat we searched the internet high and low for other boats with our chosen name. We apparently didn't consider that that spelling might occur.

We're gonna stick with what we've got! 'Dunwurkin' was the name of a camping cabin that my grandad and his brother-in-law built on their farm land in the 1920's, in Southeast Kansas. The cabin fell into disrepair years ago and was cleared off the farm. My mom and dad saved the old wooden 'Dunwurkin' sign that hung over the cabin door and it's now proudly displayed as a family heirloom at my sisters house.

The real genesis of our idea for the name of the boat comes from a lovely small etching of the cabin that my Dad made for my mom as a gift before they got married. In the etching he reversed first 'N' and used an interesting 'W' with the middle part of the W crossed. When we were emailing Margaux ideas for the font of the boat graphics we tried to find one that used the special crossed W. She found one that gets close to the idea. We experimented with reversing the N but it made reading the name at a distance difficult.

I'd be interested to know if the folks that own 'Dunwerkin' had Margaux do their graphics. I'd love to see a picture of the name.

We felt that using the name for our little cabin on the water was a way to honor the family history. Another reason we used the name is that I just retired!

In any case I hope there's no bad feelings from the Dunwerkin crew. We honestly tried to find out if anybody had used the name around here, at least. We were just one letter off.

Thanks for the sleuthing, Steve. Thanks for the initial response to my question, Sam. And thanks again, Adam, for offering to lead us to Roche Harbor.

We are standing by.

- John
