Hi John, that is all you need to do. We'll send an email update soon to everyone who is registered for the event. That update will have information on accessing the smartphone app as well as the latest event schedule. Look for that next week, it will come from Eventbrite.

We're really looking forward to it!

Sam

I should also mention here that I'm home for the summer after 3,000 mostly solo miles on the Great Loop and would love to answer anyone's questions about it at the Rendezvous. Look for me; I'll be hanging out with the folks on Infinite Loop since my boat is in Maryland waiting for me to come back. I go back to my boat at September month end and I can't wait!

Finally signed up. Downloaded the app again and all it has is last year's event. Will it be updated for this year or do I need a different app?

The 2023 app is almost finished. We'll be sending an event update (via Eventbrite) to everyone tomorrow or Friday with instructions on how to update to the latest version of the app. It should be as easy as opening last year's app and clicking on 2023. That's the plan at least 😉

Looks like I’m set for the attending rendezvous any tips on trailing from Portland to Everett? What and where do I need to get from Washington state for wide load permits, my c-288 has a 10 foot beam.

Hi all,

It's hard to believe that the rendezvous is next week already! We have a few rooms in different locations around the resort that we aren't going to need. If anyone was trying to book lodging but was unable to get a reservation, shoot me an email and I'll put you in touch with the lodging coordinator. sambisset@fluidmotionmarine.com

We're looking forward to seeing everyone up at Roche!

Well, of course, our plan to leave Wednesday blew up. We now plan leave Everett Thursday morning. Adam, I’ll hopefully have figured out how to DM you before you see this.

Got it John. I did DM you my contact info, feel free to reach out if you like.

See you at Roche!

Thanks, Adam. Will do.

I’ve tried opening up your route/tide chart image on your initial post to take a look at the route you’re considering. Would you mind sharing a different way? Maybe just a written description?

Thanks very much!

- John

I emailed you and got no response. Then I left a voicemail for the hotel. They called back and offered me a 3 bedroom house or the presidential suite. Are these the rooms you were referring to? I'm staying with a friend in Friday Harbor but that means driving and taking the ferry (as my boat is in Maryland). I'd love to get an affordable room at the hotel and be able to make the trip from Anacortes with my friends in Infinite Loop.

What can you tell me?

Hi Maria,

I did not see an email from you regarding rooms. I did get your first email with your event feedback and suggestions, thank you.

I will connect you and our room block manager to see if she still has something available but those might be the only accommodations left. Her name is Ashley, I'll email you both now.

Sometimes it takes a day or two for them to respond during busy weekends like this.

See you soon.

Sam

Thanks very much for this. Because I have my own domain name, my email is often routed into spam so I suspect that's what happened to it. I hope she can help me; it would be nice to be nearby and to ride in on a boat with my friends.

Hello,
We are looking forward to our first rendezvous and meeting fellow boaters!

We’ve seen posts from a group that will be leaving Everett sometime after noon - those boats will be making way faster than we will in our R29. Our plan is to leave the Everett marina Wednesday at 11:30 so that we make it to Deception Pass around 2:30pm to catch the end of ebb and slack. For Deception Pass Narrows, NOAH charts show slack at 4:00 pm LST, my tides chart shows the same but, L-36.com shows it at 3:00 PDT but, that looks like Yokeko point.

Anyone else leaving around that time? Comments /suggestions on the confusing tide/current times to get through Deception Pass? This will be our first adventure through the narrows.

Thanks and see you soon,
Mark and Anne-Marie

Navionics shows slack current at Deception Pass on Wednesday at 4:07. I’d go with that. We regularly run through Deception at pretty much any time with any current up to about 7kts without a problem, but it took us a while to be comfortable with that and we still shoot for near slack if possible. Definitely safer and less stressful at slack when you can enjoy taking photos etc.

More importantly what I check is what is going on regarding wind and current in Rosario Strait and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. If there are strong winds out of the west from Juan de Fuca and Deception is ebbing the standing waves at the west end of Deception (our side the pass) can get pretty bad. Similarly, an ebb in Rosario against wind coming in from Juan de Fuca can result in a really nasty crossing. At 4 pm Wednesday it is not a large ebb and the wind forecast in the straits look OK but building so the earlier the better.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, we appreciate it. Looking like winds out of west heading into the ebb, both look pretty calm. I’ve read about people taking on a 6+ knot current with a head wind making for an uncomfortable pass through the area.

I run Deception Pass all the time. I also pay almost zero attention to the tide with Deception. It's all about the current. A high or low tide does not align with a slack current at Deception Pass.

You don't need to wait for slack current. You certainly can, but 4 knots or less is all you need for a comfortable ride through.

I would say the Deception Pass gate is open Wednesday, September 6, 2023, during the following times: 08:00 - 12:00, and again from 2:45pm to sunset. (Slack is 9:55am and 4:09pm).

We are headed to Roche Tuesday, going through Deception Pass. Gate is open 7:00am - 10:30 am and again 1:30p - 5:00pm. I'm going to hit the afternoon gate. (Slack is 8:50am and 3:06pm)

I just published a video about predicting weather and current, and I talk specifically about Deception pass in this video and how to time getting through it.
https://youtu.be/OShrTz0sYok

I thought I'd publish this for everybody coming back via Deception Pass from Roche Harbor on Sunday, Sept 10, 2023.

Slack is 7:03am and again at 1:34pm.

The Deception Pass gate is open Sunrise to 9:30am, and again from 12:15-3:15pm. These times are 4knots or less current and make for an easy passage through the pass.

We will be heading back to Everett from Roche on Sunday and are planning on hitting the afternoon gate.

Another good tip for running Deception... go to Lopez Pass, not Thatcher Pass.
If you go between Deception and Thatcher pass you will run right by Belle Rock and Bird Rock. When the tide is running you can have flat seas through Rosario and find yourself in 1-2 foot chop passing by Belle Rock/Bird Rock. If you run Deception to Lopez Pass you will miss Belle and Bird rock entirely, puts you back into protected water off Lopez Island, and as a bonus... You'll avoid nearly all the San Juan island ferry traffic that constantly runs through Thatcher Pass.

Thanks, checked out the video also, we will be seeing you all in the next few days. Safe travels.
