I am a new owner of a 2013 RT 21EC. I am 5' 6" which is below average, and my knees bump into the wheel. Is there a way to resolve? Thanks

When I ordered my boat I had the factory not install the seat, just send the parts. I first thought of installing it lower and back as far as possible. But one I started using the boat I found the extra space in the cabin without the seat to be an advantage. I stand a lot at the wheel when going into port or an anchorage. I can still reach the wheel by sitting on the fridge. A small cushion helps with the comfort. We cruise for two months each summer and spend lots of time in the boat. I am 6'3"

The newer R-21EC come with a sliding helm seat to address this issue. On mine the seat had an adjustment of some 8". The seat would simply slide backwards over the Refrigerator shelf.

Personally, I have the seat folded most of the time and sit on it side saddle and found that it's quite comfortable for extended periods. Having the seat folded also allows more room for people passing through the cabin door. When someone else was sitting on the helm seat Iand I try getting into the cabin the seats metal hinge bracket would always catch my clip buckle on my trousers belt and I had to quickly grab my trouser top for fear of losing them to my ankles. 😱 😳

Hello Mike

On my 2013 R21-EC, the original owner removed and remounted the helm sear aft a few inches. When folded down the seat just touches the bump out for the fridge. I just looked at the hinges...they are moved aft such that the forward hinge screw hole is in the hole originally for the aft screw hole. So it's maybe 2-2 ½" aft overall. Given your issue, I wonder if a previous owner move the seat FWD?

I'm 5' 10" and even with a wheel mounted auto pilot, I have room for my knees.

What I did on mine, is to remove the seat, make new holes 3 inches lower and reinstaled the seat. This way I was still close from the helm and my knees do not touch anymore, and I have a better view outside too!

Aw man! Now all I'm gonna notice next time I go out is how my knees hit the steering wheel. I like the side saddle idea Baz, I'll have to give that a shot.
