After a very expensive and time consuming egine mount replacement episode I have a set of mounts that seem to transmit a huge amount of vibration at the typical volvo D1-30 idle speed of 850 rpm or so. It doesn't really smooth out much until about 1100 or 1200 rpm.

Question: Will operating the engine the higher speed harm the transmission? Could the transmission be considered reasonably rugged, and possibly able to withstand this abuse? Or is it fragile, and to be babyed. Have any of you had any sort of trouble with D1-30 transmissions? I am reluctant to go with the lower speed for fear it will pull the lag screws out of the boat hull or harm that damn MDI box, which has mechanical relays in it. Sort of wish i had a Yanmar.
