I am wondering what the members here use for the diesel fuel guage. On my R25SC I have the Yanmar engine status device, which does not measure well, and I have the Garmin 5212 which I typically reset to full after filling up. Is there a guage that measures the actual amount of diesel in the tank on the boat that is reliable? Is it a typical issue to have an incorrect Yanmar fuel gauge, and does the Garmin just calculate fuel rate and apply it to the amount you input on the screen?

Also, as the Yanmar engine guage is very difficult to read, even after messing with the contrast settings, is there an updated device that other users have swapped out for? Maybe something that is backlit? Or do you just live with this and calculate remaining diesel amount in the tank?

Thanks for your help.

The Garmin does calculate fuel used and subtract it from the total. I think it's accurate to within a gallon most of the time. I haven't found it necessary to find a different way to measure fuel in almost 800 engine hours.

The Yanmar gauge is really hard to see in daylight. I keep a small LED flashlight close by so that I can see it.

I've got an 08 r25 Classic and the yanmar gauge is pegged to "full". Any ideas on how to trace down the problem?Thanks-Alan

I have my Yanmar engine gauges on my Garmin display. I have a 2011 R27. Maybe you can do the same.

Let's call it a fuel gauge. Then we may not accidentally put gas in our diesel tanks. 😳

For our first season on our R27 last summer, the Volvo gauge and the Garmin gauge were consistently close. Starting off this season, there is a big discrepancy -- the Volvo gauge has been reading too high and fluctuating more than before. The Garmin was pretty much spot on for our first fill up. Maybe a few winter cobwebs or something. Hoping it will work itself out with a little use.
