Venting the Engineroom
By Steve D'Antonio, Jun 17, 2015

That is one of many. The most important written information is the OEM Volvo engine installation manual that explains what is needed in regards to engine ventilation. It is almost word for word if compared to the article you posted. Yet Fluid motion contends that a ventilation system is not needed in their boats. I know from experience that adding a ventilation system to my C26 decreased the compartment temperature by 30F and now in compliance with ABYC and Volvo's requirements. It's still boarder line but with in. I ask how does the system pass ABYC specifications and Volvo's requirements. ABYC inspections are made by a company employee trained and certified by the ABYC. The boat manufacturer pays the ABYC for each certified sticker that is placed on a boat. It seems like a flawed system, more of an honor system.( You pay us, no consumer complaints, we look the other way. I think (my opinion) Volvo's sales does the same thing. I base this opinion on many inquiries that I made with Volvo techs and reps (all off the record) and ABYC Certified Technician that are SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyors, a common statement is "most boat builders build the boat to their standards and don't meet all the recommendations. It's up to the consumer to hold the manufacture accountable. A full survey should be performed before delivery. I also received an email that was sent to me by a representative of BoatUS regarding an inquiry about the lack of ventilation and elevated compartment temperatures on and in my C26. " Apparently, John Livingston is sticking to his position that they have fulfilled Volvo's requirements. The NMMA rep does not have answers to whether Fluid Motion is living up to ABYC's standards (which I asked him about) and say they have no way to enforce it. My guess (and this is only MY guess) is that if they heard from dozens and dozens of boat owners with the same complaint they may be willing to confront the manufacturer, but not with one complaint."
This is no longer an issue for me. I have spent much of time and money to resolve an issue that I felt was not correct. I know there are many Fluid Motion products floating out there with the same issue but doesn't seem to effect them.
