A few shots from our third trip of the season. Trip was cut a bit short due to weather. We've been having a bad summer for boating weather thus far. One low pressure system after another has been rolling in with a lot of wind and rain. But here are a few shots.
Trip 3: June 12-15(planned through the 19th but cut short due to weather)
We spent our first night of the trip in Quillian Bay on Esther Island. There was a nice little tidal waterfall near our anchorage so I paddled ashore for a few shots.
We continued east in beautiful weather and grabbed a shot as we passed Eaglek Bay.
We had a calm, beautiful evening in the tight little anchorage at Billy's Hole in Long Bay.
And the next morning as we left Long Bay it was still lovely. I love glassy water.
Still optimistic about the weather we continued east through Columbia Bay. There was a lot of ice from Columbia Glacier floating about. Some of the bluest pieces I've ever seen.
This shot is looking back towards the source, the Chugach Mountains out of which the glacier flows.
When NOAA gave the evening forecast update it didn't sound so sporty so we headed back a bit closer to home and spent the evening in Eaglek. Things still looked rosy.
But what a difference twelve hours can make. By morning things were socked in. Nearly the same shot as above taken from out anchorage the next morning. The forecast was for a gale to blow later in the day and into the night followed by another a day or so later. So we beat feet for home.
