Subject: 30 day maintenance for Webasto heater when boat on the hard

I have to imagine there are many that take their RT boats out of the water for winter time and wonder for those boats with the Webasto heater how they maintain the 30-day needed operation to ensure the diesel fuel does not gell and for the combustion chamber & fuel injector to be kept in good working order.

Some boats are in the driveway so not an issue presumably.
Some boats are stored and left for months until spring time - so this may be a problem.
Some boats are left on dry stacks and owner abandons the winter climate for a warmer climate - so this may be a problem.

Just how do owners handle the Webasto 30-day maintenance activity when away from their boats during winter or any other time as well.

I don't think the Webasto has an automatic way for running the heater for 20 minutes every 30-days. My boat is but a few minutes away from my house and is kept in the water year round. My computer calendar alerts me every 30 days to activate the Webasto heater.... and when getting to the boat in response to the alert I always find the Webasto heater control is flashing its two side red lights indicating it requires maintenance.

If you are using diesel with gel inhibitor then nothing is required. Mine goes six months at the time without being touched and always fires right off in the spring. Been doing it that way for 15 years without an issue. All diesel fuel up here has gel inhibitor year round. To be safe you can use an additive if you are unsure about the fuel in the tank.

Dan: Fair enough.... if it works for you. For me, I'm apt to adhere to what Webasto indicates for the 30-day fire-up maintenance cycle. Do you see the two red side LED flashing after 30 days of non-use ?

Mine is so old I don't think it has that feature. Plus I pull the batteries out of the boat so it has no power all winter.

Drat.... the curse of technology advancements.
