3000 Watt Inverter vice 2000 Watt Inverter?

Hi All,

I notice that Ranger puts in a 2000 watt inverter.

I am getting ready to install a Kisea inverter in a R23. Given appropriately sized DC wiring, fusing, etc., any reason not to install a 3000 watt one?

It’s really up to how many AC loads you plan to run at once. I have a C30 and barely use my inverter for anything, except the hot water kettle, coffee grinder, and occasionally the microwave. Can’t imagine a need for 3000w in my use case. That’s a lot of continuous watts! Hope you’ve got a big house bank. 🙂

I will be expanding the current house set of batteries from 2 to 3 or 4.

One of the primary goals is to run the AC while underway. As this is one of only 5 diesel F23s built, I have the luxury of a large alternator (140 Amps).

That all makes sense. Are you married to the Kisae brand? They don't have the best reputation. Once mine goes or i'm feeling extra rich, i'll be going Victron. Probably this model:

Our Kisae 2000 inverter/charger bit the dust this spring. Springing for a Victron 12/2000/80 inverter charger. Pricey but they stand behind their products with a 5-year warranty included. YOu can double the warranty to 10 years at a cost of 10% more if you want.

140 amps X 12 volts = 1680 watts you might get from your alternator. The rest of your load will have to come (rapidly) from the batteries. What on earth are you using that draws anything approaching 3 kw? I air condition an entire house (1500 sq ft) on about 2.5 kw. Perhaps you are considering converting your boat into a walk-in freezer? (attempt at humor - no offense intended)
