We are Canadians staying at Van Isle Marina, Sidney, BC this year. We are looking for recommendations - where would you suggest we stay for the USA 4th of July? What marinas would you recommend and why?

Your help would be appreciated.

If you don't mind crowds, Roche Harbor does a nice evening display of fireworks and it is also a nice place to visit.

I’ve been in Friday Hatbor several times on the 4th of July with and without kids, and it’s been fun. The parade is really pretty neat, a real small town parade. There’s ice cream galore near the marina, and the fireworks are very cool. I like to get a space on the outside of the breakwater for a great view of the fire works, it’s sometimes bouncy out there, so the inside of that wall is a little more comfortable. The grocery store where you can get all your hotdogs etc. is handy and well stocked. There is musical entertainment at the small park near the marina. Lastly I like the public transportation that will take you to two different national parks for a hike.

Lopez Island in the San Juans has a great display and fun small town parade and farmer's market/art fair.

Poulsbo celebrates the 4th on the 3rd. Liberty Bay is a big anchorage and with a little planning and/or luck you can get on the Port of Poulsbo docks. On the morning of the 4th it's fun to watch all the boats get underway to get to their destination for the night.

Lake Union (downtown Seattle) has a huge display. There are a number of ways to enjoy it whether inside the locks or outside.

Cheers,

Bruce

This one is easy. Sullivan Bay in the Broughtons. WOW! You say, that's in B.C Canada. True, however most all the floating homes there are owned by Americans and July 4 is their big party. No fireworks, but the party starts in the morning with a parade with locals and boaters dressed for the occasion. Fun events all day. Great dinner, and then the band starts for dancing into the wee hours. We were there last year and learned we are getting a little old for all day and night partying. So that's why we will be there this year.
