Hello,

On our new to us 2021 ranger 25, there’s a 5th battery in the starboard lazarette - I can’t determine what it’s for. I assume the 2 most aft on the port side are the house, the next one is the starting, and the one most towards the bow is the thruster. Can’t locate this 5th on the factory manual. The ground is labeled AC battery…. I do not have the lithium package nor a generator.

I originally assumed it was a starting battery, but the engine still starts when it’s disconnected. The positive wire runs up under the sole, so I can’t see where it goes.

The dealer was also stumped.

That is a 3rd house bank battery (yes on the opposite side from the other two) that they added for air conditioning underway before lithium became an option.

Really! Ok that could make sense I guess. But realistically it feels like you’d only be able to run the ac for a very short time.

1.5 to 2 hours max, depending on solar input.

OK, seems we've solved this mystery, but I have another.

My ACR next to these batteries was hooked up what I think is backwards. Is the correct wiring, positive on the STARTING battery to the right side or side A of the ACR, and positive on the house bank on the left side or side B of the ACR. This is what the ACR manual says, and makes sense, since once the starting battery is at a specified voltage it will "connect" to the house bank and start charging those. Does this match yall?

Also, how does the thruster battery charge? I see no ACR for it? The only positive wire off of the positive terminal goes to the thruster fuse, and besides that the only other thing connected to the positive terminal is the "charge 3" wire from the battery charger..... This seems like there is something missing.

I’ve seen the factory wire in the ACR’s two different ways.

Engine to House ACR
House to Thruster ACR

Or
Engine to House ACR
Engine to Thruster ACR

Or

I’ve also seen them install an engine to thruster ACR and install the Yamaha Auxiliary charging cable to the house bank. The Yamaha has the ability to charge two battery banks independent of each other. I suppose this could also be switched. Engine to thruster via the auxiliary charging cable with a engine to house ACR.

Hope this helps.

I mean all of those make sense.

I just wanted to make sure it was A side of the ACR from engine to B side to House.

I also only have 1 ACR that I can find, and no aux wire. The thruster battery only has the lead to the thruster fuse from the positive, and a lead labeled charge 3 from the battery charger....

Serenity now, lol.

The ACR’s really have no a or b side. If they sense a charging violate on either side, they will close. If either side shows a significant drop in voltage (below 12.8) they will open.
