My 6BY2 260 has 3 zinc anodes, 2 of which are the familiar part no. 120650-13420 and are on the engine block. An apparent third anode is at the mixing elbow but has a slightly smaller thread (11mm vs. 12mm). I've been unable to find a replacement. My Yanmar service rep hasn't been able to find a part no. for it either. Any help out there?

I am not as familiar with the 6BY as I am with the 4BY. Interestingly the parts manual shows a zinc in the elbow for the 4BY, but that port is being used by the waterline to the stuffing box. Hence I could not find a zinc on the 4BY mixing elbow. It is interesting that the 4BY does not have a zinc yet the 6BY does. The illusive zinc for the 4BY2 is 120650-13420 the same number you stated. So, unfortunately I have not shed any light on your situation

I don't know about a zinc in the mixing elbow but I will look next time I have a chance. Took me quite a while to find the zinc on the generator (I had help).

Boont,
Exactly where is that anode in the generator ( 29 C - Onan ) ?
Thanks.

Our generator is a 4000 watt Mase. If your setup is like ours the generator is tucked up in on the starboard side of the boat accessed under the wing-stair. The zinc was under the outer, starboard cover. Unfortunately it faces toward the bow. A mechanic found it and showed it to me. I think there was some kind of sticker on it or next to it. I'm pretty sure that having a mirror would help. Once you find it, it isn't difficult to replace. Not sure about an Onan - R. Baker.

The manual that came with my 6BY2 states, "Zinc anodes are located in the heat exchanger (Figure 8, (1)) and the charge air cooler (Figure 8, (2)). An additional zinc anode may also be located in the exhaust / water mixing elbow."

I removed the bolt in the exhaust/water mixing elbow and there was no zinc, just a bolt to seal the hole. I put the bolt back in, replaced the other two zincs, and smoked a cigar to celebrate my success!
