I've added 30' of 5/16" HT chain and 120' of 3/4 8-pleat on my R-43. The chain is fine,
but the 8-pleat slips more than feeds on the windlass. I don't know what Lewmar part
or gypsy is fitted, but I've either got the wrong gyspy or some slippery 8-pleat.
Read somewhere the brand of braided rope matters; this was whatever I found one
day at West Marine. I have a feeling 3-strand might feed, or of course all-chain. But,
it's basically non-functional.
FWIW, I added this to the port side with a 66lb plow. The factory 44lb claw though
all-chain, feed fine but hold non-fine given the windage and propensity to hunt on
the hook.
