Hello everyone,

I have a 12.5' Mariner kayak that I want to take with me on cruises. It will serve as my dinghy.
It is made for fishing, so has a tunnel type hull and a removable pedal drive prop.
It weighs in at 90 lbs.

It's too heavy to man-handle up to the top, so I'm looking for suggestions / advice on:
1. An appropriate cradle to hold it topside, and
2. A means to lift it from the water to the cradle.
Manual is better than electric.

Thanks,
Jeff Radwill

Can anyone provide information about kayak lifting / mounts?

Thanks,
Jeff

Having dealt with lifting my tandem hard body kayak from the water to the Malone J rack mounted to the top of my C28 hundreds of times, I believe there is no easy way to do it.

I have researched lifting devices. They all still require you to lift the kayak from the water to the device's carriage. This means you are still dangling off the side of your boat holding on with one hand and lifting with the other - difficult at best for two people. The lift has always worked best by pulling the kayak up at the bow of the boat and working it back into the racks from there - reverse for launching.

I believe the safest and least frustrating way is to install a Davit lift system.

Nice. But I don't want an electric hoist because of the additional weight.
I'm designing something with Harken double and single blocks to lift by hand, and I'll manufacture (or have manufactured) a holding mechanism. I'm think a pair of short posts to keep it away from the solar panel, and either wood or stainless brackets to hold it in place once lifted, with a few tie-downs.

Anyone have something like I'm thinking?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas,

Jeff
