We are still trying to find a name for our tug that hasnt already been adopted. Is there a complete list of boat names being used by Tugnuts? Most members go by a username rather than by boat name on the membership list. Ive checked the World of tugs site but I dont know how complete it is. Ive also looked at existing photo albums and gathering lists. Out of courtesy Id like to try to not duplicate a name, at least in our locale. I know, my wife thinks Im over thinkin this too!!!!

you are over thinking it ;-) go with your gut and find a name that suits you and your boat, the likelyhood of there being a duplicate in and around you is slim to none in my opinion.

Just dont call it "Current Obsession"

Ask your wife to name the boat. I found that to be the easiest approach to this issue. She gave it but a few minutes to think about it before coming up with our R-25's name. It's a win-win approach IMO. 😉

Please, not "Different Drummer". If I see one more of those in my marina, I'll scream. LOL

How bout UNDECIDED

Start reading a bit of poetry, or native american articles, etc.

I worried about duplicating another Ranger Tug name when I named my boat and thought I checked out Tugnets pretty well. Turns out not well enough....there's at least one other Tugalong out there. Coast Guard documentation requires a name, so I had no time to waste.

Pick a favorite dead female relative...grandmother, etc. It will probably be unique and have a little class. Probably sounds good over the radio also. Lot better than the "Sin or Swim" or "Cocktail Tugger" genre.

Please DON'T name it Wet Dream either.

And whatever you do, don't name it Tugnut. See Urban Dictionary for an explanation. My children think it hysterical that I use this chat. I can't be the first to have noticed.

I had a small sailboat in college that I called, "After You." I told all the girls that I named my my boat...
Of course after 27 years of marriage the boats always seem to have some sort of Irish theme ;-)

I wouldn't put much store in the Urban Dictionary and the definitions for youngsters slang.

Just pick a name that is meaningful to you and your mate. You cannot go wrong. Don't worry about duplicates.
