Many of you are probably Boat US members. If so, you may have gotten this email today with a link to an article in their online magazine that is chock full of tips for cleaning and small boat repairs. There are some pretty clever, resourceful ideas on the list. One I plan to try is salt and lemon juice to clean brass (the porthole for the head) just to see how it compares to the products I usually use. Here's the link to the article. Anyone have a favorite tip on the list? Or something you would add to it if you could?

Memory foam on top of the mattress is one of my favorites. Bunk mattresses are notoriously uncomfortable due to the lack of springs underneath. I used to get up multiple times a night and always thought it was due to my innate sense of anchor watch. We put memory foam on the bunk and now I sleep the night through unless the weather gets up or another boat anchors close alongside.

One of my favorites for pet owners is a simple way to keep the dog smelling good. Carry a few scented "cling free" drier sheets in a ziplock bag. When the dog begins to get a little musty smelling from swimming in salt water, give it a rub down with a sheet and it'll smell like clothes fresh out of the drier.

Catsup also cleans brass

A lot of great uses for cheaper materials than Westmarine Products ($$$). I especially like the Coke down the head although it might be hard on the environment.

As a tip using "Barkeepers Friend" for both water spotted windows and chrome railings has made my cleaning easier.

Ok. Here is another one. The galley faucet on my R25 came loose. No way to get your head in there to see what is happening. Using an Iphone was the perfect solution. Was able to "see" in cramped quarters that the approx. 1/4 x 20 nut on a threaded rod came loose by shooting 10 or so images with the Iphone held at different positions. Now I just have to get at it to tighten it up.
