I got tired of squeezing my head into the locker under my R-21EC's helm seat to discover wire connections etc.... so took this picture... You cannot have too many wires and I'm sure I'll need to add another fuse block in series along side this one.

Thanks Ranger for all the wire labelling. 😀 😎

If it's like mine, it's the 15A fused circuit on the bottom third from left with the blue/white stripe wire.

Hello Barry,

Yessirree, you are smart to install another fuse block as that one is FULL. No room left there. I also added a negative buss bar to unclutter the 12VDC neg terminations.

It appears your N2K network power supply is unswitched as it is connected to the power supply stud for the fuse panel. Is this correct?

Yes.... you are correct, and I also noted this the other day. 🙂 However, the Garmin 741XS has its own power switch. 😉 I will likely attach my AIS 300 the same way, but on a 2nd fuse block I'll be adding. I mentioned this to Andrew and he said for all the AIS units he/Ranger installs, it's not switched as it powers up when the Chartplotter powers up.

BTW... I've noted you've moved your Boat Battery Switch from the helm side locker to the front side of that locker for easier access. A nice move for sure.... however, Ranger's approach to many of the ancillary devices is for them to be hidden, out of sight etc, and this goes for wiring. The only real wire I can see from inside the Pilot House is for the white VHF antenna, and that is mostly invisible until it exits the cabin wall. As an aside, I did note that the hole that this wire goes through to the outside was not sealed as I could see daylight through it. I promptly sealed it the other day as I did note a drop or water below this hole lower down and was wondering how come?

Yes Barry, moving that switch was one of my first mods. I like to turn the 'house' off when I leave the boat and getting down on my knees, lifting the pilot's seat, swinging the door open and reaching in to blindly turn the switch seemed burdensome. So I moved it to eliminate ALL the hassle.

According to the Garmin AIS 300 manual, it powers up when the N2K network comes on. Having your networked unswitched in not a huge deal, but whenever you turn on your 'house' switch, several things will power up creating more load on your battery than you may want. Like the AP interface (p70r) will be ON unless you turn it off every time. For me that also includes the EV1 and the 3G radar interface thingy. Again, not a big deal as long as YOU know what's on. I installed a switch.

Currently, I have a KILL-A-WATT meter on the wire coming in from my house to the boat so I can measure the wattage and KwH use.

At this time it shows 18 watts with nothing on (Refer is OFF). Don't know if the battery charger is pulling any watts at this time.

When Refer is ON the wattage kicks up to 60 and then falls to a steady 55.

So if battery charger is not drawing power where is this 18 watts going to ?

That's the juice to keep the battery charger running. Plus, isn't it putting out 0.1-0.2A to the batteries? The output shows on the display of the charger.

Yes, I just check that label for that wire.... it's the wiper park fuse of 15 amps.
