Hello all. Brand new to the forum. My husband and I are looking at a new R29. We will be doing a test next week to see if the R29 will fit in our "dry moorage" marina and if all goes well we will be getting our new boat in June.

My question to any owners is regarding space for a freezer. We currently do multi-week excursions on our existing boat, a Skagit Orca 27XLC and one thing that would make the extended trips even better is a freezer. As we look at moving to the R29 I'm wondering if anyone has experience with installing a freezer and where on the boat it was put. We wondered if the storage spaces in the cockpit are large enough for a portable freezer and if there is a power source there. It's difficult to tell from the pictures we have seen on the web, and it's not something we looked at when we saw the boat at the Vancouver boat show.

Anxiously awaiting the boat test, so we can stop "dreaming" and get planning.

Cheers all
Kathy

Kathy, congratulations on the new boat! Having looked at questions concerning the temperature of the wine cooler, etc. I am envious at the amenities you all have on your boats. Us C-Dory owners don't have that much room on board. I'm sure a freezer would fit between the wine cooler and the trash compactor, just behind the hot tub!

I really would like to have a Tug, maybe some day!

Kathy,
Congratulations on your new (potential) boat, this would be an excellent choice. We and many other R-29 owners bought a Norcold portable freezer from the factory. We can store about three weeks of frozen foods for two (45 quart size). We all put it in the lower berth area. The lower area has a 12V cigarette outlet next to the light just to the right as you step down, it works well for the freezer and draws about 3 amps when running it is in a very convenient location with easy access.

Thanks for the responses Charlie 🙂, and Bob & Nita.

Great to know there is power in the lower berth. I've been going over and over the virtual tour trying to see if there was power there but couldn't tell so thanks for that info

We are very excited about the boat, we'll know this week if it is a fit for our marina or if we have to look for moorage elsewhere.

We hope to cross paths some time in the near future as our plans are to be on the water most of the summer 🙂

Cheers

I forgot to mention that there is also a 120V standard outlet in the same area.

We purchased a Waeco portable freezer/refrigerator for a previous boat and used it for overflow, long cruises, etc and found it to be very useful. Waeco (http://www.waeco.com) is part of Dometic and their portable units come in various sizes, they can be powered by AC or DC or in our case we hard wired it so it ran with the house batteries, shore power and or generator. I can not speak to where it would best fit in your new 29 but we secured ours in the lazerette of our last boat, just another option. Good luck with fitting into your slip.

Thanks all!

Cheers
