What kind of "family" promises you responsiveness, knowingly omits specific information in a phone conversation concerning a greater than $200,000 purchase of one of its products in a full 20 minute phone conversation, does not keep promises made in writing, stops responding to emails, and takes no responsibility for any defect in product or mistakes made by it's franchisees?

Unfortunately, I think you can guess.

Disappointing and sad beyond belief.

Sorry to read that you are disappointed. I’ve sent you a PM, please take a look and respond to me when you can.

I have also been disappointed with the company response to manufacturing defects. I purchased a year and a half old RT with a little over 100 hours. Within 2 years I found 2 serious problems related to engine installation and gelcoat. I had a very good pre purchase survey, however these problems only showed up after additional use. I contacted the company and was told that for manufacturing defects one needs to be the original owner and you have 1 year to find the defect to have it covered.

You can't be referring to Fluid Motion or Ranger Tugs.
Is it a dealer or broker you are having issues with?

If this is how you normally interact with people ,I'm not surprised they don't want to deal with your demands ....
…. real or imagined.

Let’s be more civil as we don’t know all the particulars.

Ok ill bite I love riddles!
Jolly's not jolly and is in dismay because not every thing is going his way,
I'm sorry to hear that your love has been lost for that cute little tug at the end of the dock!
May you recoup your loss and regain your joy for the sea is waiting for the love we enjoy!
Bob
PS: hope you and others fix your problems so you can enjoy your boat!

Mr. & Mrs. Rogers,

I’m sorry that you have felt the need to take your issues publicly. We are a straight forward and honest company that have managed to keep many owners happy over the years. Unfortunately, we are left in a position that doesn’t always create the most positive outcome. You purchased a vessel that was four years old from a private broker on the east coast. You flew out, inspected the boat, declined a survey (even when the broker instructed you to have one done) and have now found issues with the boat you purchased.

When you purchase something used that you know has no warranty you do have to take some responsibility and understand that there will be items that you may have to address on your own. As we offered you, we are happy to provide you with any parts at cost, technical assistance or instruction you need in getting the boat you purchased up to expectations.

Thank you for posting,

Used. Out of warranty. No survey. Private seller. I knew there had to be more facts than first disclosed given the timely and quality assistance provided by Fluid Motion. Even with a survey this does not appear to be a Fluid Motion issue 3 years past warranty period.

We just completed the purchase of a 2016 R-27.
The very first thing we did was to arrange for a survey and sea trial of the boat after our visual inspection.
In our opinion we would have been foolish not to have it done.
The vessel is 3 years old. Things happen in 3 years and may not be obvious to the casual observer.
You cannot expect a company to warranty anything for that length of time.
I have been around boats for many years but I do not consider myself and expert hence the survey.

TugNuts for the most part is an informational based forum. If you have an issue or question with your Ranger or Cutwater, "how to get to", "how to fix", or "this is what I found wrong add this issue to your inspections". If you found an issue with your Ranger Tug that involves construction or the build post it, there are probably others that have the same issue. If you have an issue with the engine, post it, there are probably other Volvo's, Yanmars, Yamaha's or Suzuki's with the same issue. Riddles create speculation, Riddles without punch lines or explanations are not informative and lead readers to speculate.

I can commiserate with you about issues with the Fluid Motion build, construction and installation of components or lack of. I purchased a new Cutwater without a Survey. Lesson learned. When you are purchasing a New or Used boat that values close to or over 200K there is nothing that says this boat is built right. Its says we will warranty it for factory defects for a year and a 5 year "limited" warranty for the hull to the original owner. Just because you are buying an advertised quality built boat, Ranger or Cutwater doesn't mean that it was quality built. I believe that Fluid Motion builds a well designed, well constructed boat and has full intensions and expectations to build a quality boat. The build is only as good as the people building it. Human error, Quality Control and product demands can hinder "Quality".

A survey is a must. I would not expect any structural or major component installation failures with a 3 year old boat. If there are defects they were probably there from day one. Unless there is evidence of neglect. The surveyor will zone in on these issues and explain possible causes which usually go back to the build and at that point you walk away or negotiate with the owner for a fix. As stated previously ( Andrew ) buying a 3 year old Ranger Tug without a Survey is a big gamble. You are on your own. This should be a notice to all perspective boat purchasers including Ranger and Cutwater's new or used, Have a ABYC SAMS licensed surveyor do a full survey of the boat before finalizing the sale. This gives piece of mind to the buyer and evidence to the seller or manufacturer that the boat is constructed properly and meets or exceeds all ABYC requirements and recommendations.

To say this isn't Fluid Motions problem. Well yes and no. It's a 3 model year old Ranger. Not knowing what the issue is," the jury is still out for me" If it is component failures I agree completely no warranty should be applied. If it is engine issues that would be on Volvo. If it is structural or major component installation issues and failure 3 years after manufacture ??

Without posting the issue we speculate.

This is why, I'm a Ranger Tug fan. Show me another company that can and will do this, for someone who buys a used product. (Note highlights and bold are my edits.)
Well done Andrew!!

Well done Andrew!!

Amen! Way to go Andrew and team.

Seems like the Riddler expects Batman to make everything perfect in the Gotham tug world.

I second the recommendation to survey even a brand new vessel. We did that for our new C30S, and felt reassured that no big issues surfaced.

Besides that check, the surveyor shared lots of knowledge and recommendations that have already been very valuable, such as products, a local group to join, etc. I would do that again for any boat I might purchase. (For those in the Seattle area, the surveyor was Wayne Gilham from Tacoma).

The phrase “buyer beware” came about for a reason. I’m sorry I’m not more sympathetic to the OPs situation but it seems bizarre to buy a high ticket used item that’s not under warranty from a private party without having a condition inspection performed!
You shouldn’t buy a house without inspections would you? Or a used car, recreational vehicle or airplane without a recent third party inspection would you? A larger boat is no different!
Larger boats, from any manufacturer, are a collection of a lot of complex systems that can and will fail over time. Any larger boat buyer need to perform due diligence before completing a purchase to avoid the issues the OP seems to be experiencing.
From reading these posts it seems like that the OP’s due diligence was seriously lacking.
And, no, I am not a marine surveyor or marine power train surveyor but I have used them on both of my larger boat purchases. Money well spent!
