A riddle.

We bought a new 2019 R-29 we received last November. There have been a few warranty problems, but they have been or are all being resolved. I have been impressed with the overall quality and thought put into the construction and design of the boat. I'm a perfectionist, so I'm very picky.

Having said that, I have been on the the Jolly Rogers in the last few months and was appalled at the poor construction I noticed. It was nothing like my boat. I'm not surprised the owner is upset because the basic construction is not the kind of warranty issues you would expect. Obviously, the owner shouldn't expect any wear parts or operating systems to be covered by anyone but themselves, but basic original construction items are a different matter. In my opinion, this boat should have been returned to the factory and never sold.

Hopefully there will be an end to this string, and even better if it’s this post.

Andrew was very clear about the history of the boat and how the condition was not consistent with what left the factory. Please re-read his last post. I am just not seeing how blame is being applied correctly.

I know a thing or two about Ranger’s customer service.

I bought one of the first C28’s off the line. The day of delivery Andrew called me and said in good conscience he couldn’t deliver it as there were items that were not up to his standards. I was disappointed but when I received the boat a few days later I was thrilled with the condition. There were a couple of very minor design flaws that were fixed with later models . I actually expected more issues as I was a very early adopter. A couple of small fixable problems were taken care of immediately.

I moved to a used R29 that I bought from a private seller. It was not under warranty and I had a problem with the water tank level sending unit. I called Ranger for advice and the next thing I knew they just came out and fixed it. For free.

After three boat-less years and months of searching for my next boat I just purchased an R27. I got a great deal on an end of year 2019 which had been under wraps, in storage. During the commissioning we discovered a problem with the gelcoat that was caused by a combination of the wrap and weather conditions. RT could’ve just fixed the gelcoat but Andrew called me and said that wouldn’t do…and without me asking he gave me a brand new 2020 R27 for the same price.

I have several other personal examples of their customer service. They don’t let junk roll out of the factory door and when an inevitable issue comes up they fix it.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Yep. Let’s put it to bed.

Good night Jolly Rodgers I hope you sleep tight in your tug that I hope is finally made right! Best wishes from all and best of luck, I'm sure Andrew and crew will do what is right! You might not agree with what is to be, but they are running a great company!
Best of luck and bless the Lord that we can all agree to disagree and still be friends and shipmates!

Rule #1) you always get a survey on a used boat purchase. period. end of story.

sounds to me like JR is trying to hold Ranger Tug accountable for their failure to follow this most basic rule of buying a used boat.

and sorry: 4 marine surveyors denied a commission to survey a used boat? don't buy it. denied for the price they wanted to pay? denied for some other undisclosed reason? anyone else know of a marine surveyor denying a survey comission? and even if literally true as described, there must be more than 4 in the north east......

don't have enough room to list all the reasons you would have a survey on a used boat, even if it was a Hinckley: was the prop hit and cutless bearing damaged, was it grounded with damage to prop shaft, rudder...was it holed and repaired, review engine logs for required maintance, etc. etc. etc. etc...
