I suspect my macerator has seized-up as a result of never being used over the last four years.

My problem then is this, do I hire someone to un-seize it or simply buy a new one?

I would rather not have to buy a new macerator, but what has the experience of others been?

For instance, once the macerator seizes up, are they ruined or can they be easily fixed and operated?

Suspect a salvaged unit may be one head-ache after another should I continue using this once damaged piece of hardware?

I can't imagine them being too expensive .. Sure doesn't look like much of a pump . I

Mine was inoperative when I bought my 2007 Ranger Tug 25, also because of not being used. I pulled it out and much was rusted. Got a new one from West Marine, and installed farely easily.

I used the JABSCO West Marine Model # 7781735.
The JOHNSON shown directly under in the cataloge looks good also.
Both companys make good pumps.
As to the proseedure :
I replaced the motor of my stern thruster a year ago. Nearly killed me.
I removed the double louvered doors.
sawed out the narrow fiberglass portion so that I would have more room to get my arms and torso in. Replaciing the doors latter only left a 1 / 4 " space between the 2 door jambs.
The pump is scrwed to the plywood base with small lag bolts or philips head wood screws.
The 2 hose clamps are tightened with a slotted screw driver or small hex head socket. probably 1/4 or 5/16 ".
The pump is mounted on 4 rubber washers with the wood screws going thru them, inorder to reduce noise.

Thank you for your replies and advice.

I replaced my macerator ($234 Cdn at West Marine), plus three hours labour at $40/hour.

I figure that's pretty good.

The old macerator was "not" seized-up as suspected.
However, it was "not" a self-priming pump and now suspect it may have had to be just primed???
How does one "prime" one of these things, ugh?

Anyway, I'm pleased how it turned out.

Best regards, Bob

Sounds like you have a spare now🙂

Nope, I threw it out. It kept tripping the breaker.
