How does the 12V AC work on the R21? Do you have to be on dock power to use it?

Open the thru-hull fitting for the AC. It's located under the v-berth, portside. The unit may start automatically, depending on the temp in the cabin vs the temp set in the control unit. The control unit is mounted on the port side of the cabin below the drink holder.

If it doesn't start automatically, adjust the temp control below the cabin temp. It should start.

There are two batteries in the aft storage compartment to power the AC unit. The AC unit doesn't need shore power.

Be sure to open the thru-hull fitting. Water is the cooling agent for the condenser. It also lubricates the pump.

AC that runs on 12V? Let me know how it works. Does it use an inverter to convert it to 115AC or is it straight 12VDC? Must draw one heck of a lot of amperage!

My wife and I spent this past weekend at Barnegat Light with temps in the high 90's. Underway, the 12v DC a/c was able to keep the cabin in the mid 80's. At night, we ran a fan off 120v ac (we have shore power) and set the a/c thermostat at 84 in the cabin. It was very comfortable. Not as good as the 120v ac air conditioning systems I am used to on larger boats, but it did a good job.
If we set the thermostat at less than 78, the air conditioner runs non-stop for about 5 hours, then cuts out as the batteries have been depleted when not being charged. WJC
