Has anyone out there adapted a trailer setup for a 27' Ranger Tug to a 25' Ranger Tug. In looking at a 27' RT trailer sitting side by side to a 25' RT trailer the main difference seems to be the bow support. Both trailers are the same length so I would need to adjust the bow stop towards the rear I suspect to get the correct tongue weight.

Comments?

Thanks, Dick

Hi Dick,

Interesting that the trailers are the same length. Check to see if the axels on each trailer are also in the same location relative to the transom of the boats. They are likely in a different location to keep the center of the boat in the same position relative to the axels and have the proper tongue weight. If this is the case, you will want to move the winch stand just enough to keep the same axel vs. boat position. You may also need to trim the ends of the bunks if they extend past the boat transom when in the new position.

Our R27 sits on a modified C28 trailer. It’s a long story...

Curt summed it up. The boat needs to sit on the trailer relative to the axle position. Everything else should adjust to be adjusted to that. Although it is also possible that axles need to be shifted to get desired tongue load. But that's not likely.

Curt,

The “long story” scares me. The dealer also has a factory trailer setup for a RT 25’ at a much higher cost. I think if I decide to purchase a trailer I will go with that one. The COG for the 27’ I believe can be worked, however the bow supports which I believe need to be moved will require adding additional crossmembers.

Thanks again,

Dick

Don’t worry about the “long story”. It only applies to our specific garage requirements. You should be fine with the R27 trailer as long as you position the boat properly over the axels with adequate tongue weight.
