Add webasto furnace to R-23

On an R-23 with factory A/C, how are is it to remove the A/C and add the Webasto furnace? Is the ducting the compatible? Is it even possible to add the fuel tank for the Webasto in the factory position after the boat is finished?

I have both a/c and a webasto heater in my R23.. Although I believe the dometic 8K ac was installed x factory. It does sit right under the port seat. It would be tricky to install the webasto tank, but it is somewhat accessible from the cave. The ducting for the two are independent, at least on my install. There were some factory assembly pics of the heater install position that were posted earlier by another member.

Thank you for your response, I did not know the boats could ave both. Are the through holes for the intake/exhaust, and fuel filler on the port side like the boats with no AC?

The control panel for the A/C is kind of sandwiched between the dinette port wall and the gunwale. Not easy to get to. Not sure if it could be installed there as a aftermarket install.

The AC unit should have the capability of heating as well. You might want to look into purchasing a small generator to power the AC unit. We use a Honda 2200 to power ours. Although we have few real cold night here in Florida I have used the generator in cold weather to warm the cabin. It works just fine.

If it were me I would keep the air conditioner and add the webasto as a separate system with its own ducts. . I did that on my R-27. I had the best of both worlds. would use the Webasto on the hook for heat and the Air conditioner while on shore power. I also carried a small ceramic heater that also worked well while on shore power. Keeping the air conditioner. IMO, will make your boat more marketable on resale.

Thank you for all the responses. What I am trying to figure out is how to add the heater webasto and if the A/C is in the way, not necessarily remove the A/C. We will not be using the reverse cycle heater, ie not staying in marina or using a generator, which is why I am looking to install the webasto.

I am purchasing a used R23 with AC, but would like to know about the option to add the heater as well for use underway. No
doubt that a small propane heater would work, but would enjoy the added built in flexibility if it’s possible.
