My boat has about 50 feet of chain and I want to increase that to 100 feet by adding a second 50 feet of chain. Can you provide me with the specs for the chain so I can get the same stuff? I'd also welcome any insight you might have on how I can add the chain to my existing setup in a way that won't give me problems with my windlass.

Thanks!

The chain is 5/16" and the line is 5/8", but there isn't really a way to add to a chain you already have. You would probably have to order a 100' chain.

Thank you,

Thanks for this information!

But there's no way to connect two lengths of chain securely to each other? Without affecting windlass use?

And how would I connect the new chain to the line in such a way that it would go through the windlass without problems?

Can you recommend a shop, preferably in the Anacortes or Bellingham area to make the modifications I need for my rode?

You can connect the two chains, but would need to find a shop that could weld in a link. Otherwise you won't be able to add another length of chain to your chain now. The best thing would be to buy the 100' chain from Fisheries Supplies.

Thank you,

Thanks for this. I'm still not sure how I'd connect the chain to the existing line. The current setup looks as if the line was woven into the end of the chain. Who does this for you folks? Or are you using a different method now? My boat is a 2019.

Also, sorry to be a pest, but I'm looking at chain options. Grade 43? Or something else? As you've probably surmised, I know nothing about this. All I want is to have chain that's going to work with my windlass. There's no way I could manually haul it up or down.
