I have a 2014 31S and am considering extending some of the roof racking to cover the smaller cockpit roof area so that I could store things without scratching the gel coat. Lots of good storage can be taken advantage of for trips that can fit below or behind kayaks or SUP's stored on existing racks.

Has anyone done anything similar that they can share?

Just so happens I'm working on that now. I have a Cutwater 28. I wanted some roof storage but wasn't sure how to do it as I have a solar panel. I found something called a 'skinny' roof rack. Just received it and am bolting it together now. Hope to put it on as soon as I take the shrink wrap off.

I'm hoping it will fit alongside the solar panel. I'm going to use it to secure clam rakes, my inflatable kayak, things like that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's a picture:

I installed a roof rack today. I wanted something to store an inflatable kayak, clam rakes, things like that. My inflatable dingy can fit in there too, but I have to check how practical it will be.

This is a 'skinny' model, 23 inches wide. Just makes it between solar panel and radio mast. Attachment hardware was a bit fussy but seems sturdy enough.

Roof racks are available in a lot of configurations now, so you might find something that works for you.

Not the best picture, sorry about that.

Looks Good, Looking to do this on mine.
Thanks for the pics!

Really looks great, How is the quality on the roof rack and mounting hardware? I have multiple components from Yakima and Thule that are good, but had not heard of Avenn. The reviews on line look good.

I actually wanted a Yakima skinny rack. Couldn't get one, sold out wherever I looked. I then tried another off brand rack, which never showed up. Had to open a claim with Amazon, I did get a refund.

Fingers crossed, I ordered this one from Avenn. Put it together in the basement, seemed ok. Quality not bad. I think the finish is powder coated. Hardware was fussy, but all of them are like that. Rated for 150 pounds, more than I would ever put on the roof of the boat.

It's the kind of thing that only time will tell, but the quality seems OK. And it was half the price of a Yakima.
