I'm seekiing advice:
My R 25 BANJO has been for sale since May of this year...The price has been lowered from a beginning in the 130's to the current listing at $117.000. There have been many many lookers, no offers. The boat is in excellent shape, with just over 200 hours on the Yanmar 110. All the extras: genset, air, etc. One thing. There is no trailer.

Right now the boat has been hauled, is on the hard, and i hve had the 250 service ordered. So, in the spring, it will be ready to go. and new bottom paint too.

There are many of you out there who can give good advice...i'd like to hear it.

By the way, the sale has to do with personal health issues and well as the striking decline in my retirement income.

Thanks

As you're probably aware these vessels fit a niche market. I suspect your area isn't as receptive to these vessels as the PNW and the New England area. I'd hate to try and sell my tug here in my local area. We have thousands of boats here and only two Ranger tugs. People think they're cute, but buy the SeaRays, etc.

Have you tried Craigslist in the PNW and New England? You might have to help a buyer with transportation costs. The folks at Gratitude seem very nice, if you're considering a broker.

By definition, a niche market is a subset of a larger market; maybe the tug niche is filling up in some areas. The factory seems to be running close to full capacity. When I was there a month or so ago they had only two open slots before yearend; they also had two used R25s. I'm noticing a number of used R25s coming on the market in the price range you mention, most of them have trailers.

Good luck, sorry you have to give up BANJO.

In all honesty I can not see owning my R25 without a trailer so I can not help but think that would affect ability to sell your boat. At least to potential buyers oooutside of PNW or New England. In many other parts of the country boats like this are often not left in water all year. I look forward to trailering LENABELL the 400 miles down to the Gulf for a couple of weeks during the winter. If I could not readily trailer the boat I might as well have bought the excellent used 36 foot Grand Banks that was another option.

Otherwise with only 200 hours I would think that $117K would be a reasonable price considering there is still a reasonably strong market for these new boats.

I listed my 2007 on the Hull Truth, Cost $29.00 to join and be a captain. Life time deal. list as many boats as you want. I would keep the price up so you have room to deal. Even buy the trailer to get the sale. Thousands visit the site every day.
Pm mail me for a couple tips. on using the site. 😉 captd

I suspect there are several reasons (besides the recession)--one is the lack of a trailer--One sold for about $87,000 without a trailer, without a genset, but did have the Cummins engine, so price is one. Second is the engine: the newer boats have the 150 Cummins engine, and higher cruise speeds.

I am currently selling an 18 foot boat which does not have a trailer, and have concluded I need to purchase a trailer, but this time is not the best time of the year to sell.

Thank you to all who have given advice...i've followed up on much of it.
I understand the new 2010 R 25 will be listed in the range of 166,000 by Jan 1
My advertised sale price is 117,000 and includes the winter storage, recommissioning in spring, waxing, and the 250 hour service.
In the last week since the new ad went up on Gratitude Yacht Sales here in Rock Hall, there have been several calls and some visits arranged. Maybe a Christmas present for someone?

I think the Cummins/Yanmar issue just depends on the taste of the buyer. I find the Yanmar easily repaired, at reasonable rates, parts almost universally available at reasonable cost, and very cheap to run...a few knots of speed difference has never been of appeal to me...but I realize for others that is a big factor favoring the Cummins.
Simple is best in my boat history.

If she sells i will let everyone know.
