2010 R 25 Please do not tell me to search forums on this subject. Internet access is limited. Please forgive my typos as I am at anchor and am not good typing on phone. Could you please send me that sidepower troubleshooting guide. My aft tgruster has quit, no noise, nothing. Capeann@hotmail. Com

Thanks!

Namaste.

Jim, I just emailed a copy of the guide. If you have no power to the thruster start at the 150A fuse located in the battery compartment. Is the bow thruster operable? If so, not your battery. Thrusters and windlass operate of the same battery.
Mike

I also sent you the troubleshooting manual. Mike is on the right track regarding the fuse. Sometimes the fuse may look good, but if you examine it there could be some fine cracks, so look carefully. If the bow thruster is working you can always swap fused to make sure it is not the fuse.

Let us know how you make out.

Jim B:

Sorry to read about your thruster problem and hope the manuals/guides that the Mike's sent help out. After you've corrected the problem let us all know what was needed to make the fix so the rest of us can be prepared if or when it happens to us.

Sorry to hear.

For what its worth, Our rear thruster activated on its own, then died on first night dockside during delivery orientation.

Dealer replaced and has been fine ever since.

Good luck,

Bill

Thanks all! I do not know what I would do without you guys.

The fuse is blown. I jumped it momentarily and the thruster worked. I have never changed this type of fuse. Do you just yank it out like a bad tooth? Do you have to unscrew terminal wires.? At the risk of losing your sympathy 🙂 I am anchored in Boca Grande Bayou. Any chance of finding replacement nearby?

You will have to remove the two nuts at the top and bottom of the fuse. There will be a spacer, take note as to the orientation as one side is beveled. The fuse has slotted ends to slide in and out, you may have to pry it a bit. I found that aftermarket fuses need to have the slots enlarged to fit, in a pinch they should work as long as the amperage is the same.
I ended up getting a couple from Ranger last Summer and they are exact replacements.

Jim, glad you located the issue. Fuse is the simple task and the only one I hope you have. Shear pin on the other, oh boy. I am lucky and have three son's all with very long arms and body's that can get into weird positions better than mine. They, made my shear pin nightmare go away fairly easy, cost a nice lunch for each of them. Thruster wiring system is fairly simple.

Jim B:

If you can not locate the 150A described fuse and you're heading towards Ft Myers I have one, just let me know. We're docked at Legacy Marina thru the end of March.

jumping good idea i always carrt couple spares and to dock boat without thrusters just for practice

Thanks to all especially Jim & Brian. I called ahead and the Punta Gorda West Marine says they have them in stock so I should be able to replace when I get back to Fishermen's Village.

All is well. The West Marine fuse is a Blue Seas product ($20 USD)which required grinding to open up the slots so that it may fit on the bolt heads. The ceramic center portion of the fuse was wider than the original so I turned the spacers sideways on the bolts to allow space for it to fit.

Given that the West Marine product required modification in spite of its price I went ahead and ordered these cheapos on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WK51U8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They seem to be on a slow boat from China. Will update when they arrive.
