I'm looking at replacing my house bank on my 2014 Ranger R-31. I currently have 4, 100AH AGM's in the bank and wonder if you folks have a recommendation for brand.

I've seen good reviews of the Renogy product but in all my online research, there just doesn't seem to be any favorites....and all the review sites appear to be for sale to the highest bidder.

Can anyone give me an independent opinion?

I replaced all 6 of my batteries last spring in my R29. I replaced the factory original House bank with 125 AH Lifelines. and the Start and thruster batteries with Optimal. All AGM. So far I am happy with them. The lifelines have great reviews and are performing well for me.

I was not quite ready to make the lithium leap....Maybe next time... 🙂

With a name like Gamble, I see no risk in your suggestion....my name is Alan Gamble btw......

I like the Lifeline but the price is twice the Renogy which also gets great reviews.....

I too would love to go Lithium but the cost of the batteries, new alternator and likely inverter charger required to safely handle lithium are a bit daunting....

VP recommends a minimum of 950 CCA for starter batteries in Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) boats using their D4 series engines. The highest CCA rated battery I could find was the 1150 CCA rated Odyssey Extreme 31M AGM and the X2Power 31M AGM from Batteries Plus with identical specs to the Odyssey. Went with the X2Power (at BatteriesPlus’s frequent 15% off sale) for both starter and thruster batteries. Excellent warranty on both the Odyssey and X2Power. Haven’t had any issues in the first season of use.

I replaced my 6 batteries (R29 Classic) several years ago with Duracell Ultra deep cycle marine and RV (house plus thruster). Then I bought an Optima Blue top for a starting battery. All AGMS from Battery Plus. They've performed flawlessly.

I 2nd the Lifeline AGM for house and Optima Blue top for thruster/engine. Expensive but you get what you pay for...
