I have a 2013 R 27 recently purchased with air conditioning. I am replacing all filters and impellers but according to the factory parts list, there is no impeller for the A/C. First, is there a impeller for the A/C and does anyone know the part # and where to get it?

Thanks,
Ken

I let others correct me if wrong, but on my 2012 R27, the AC has a centrifugal pump in the engine compartment port side down stream of the AC water inlet seacock. No impeller to replace. HTH, Gary

If the question is ( is there a maintenance requirement to replace the pump impeller in the marine air cooling water pump?) No.
There is an impeller and pump housing that can be replaced if damaged. The impeller is open faced used in a centrifugal pump (as Gary stated). This pump can run dry for an extended period of time unlike the flexible rubber vane pumps used for engine cooling. The disadvantage of the open face pump is they are not self priming. The pump needs to be installed below the water line in order to pump and pick up prime. If it is installed above the water line it must be primed with water to work. If you have a marine air pump that seem to loose prime. Check where the pump installation its located. If it is above the water line of the boat. You may have issues with the pumps ability to pump water after a haul out or during a high speed cruise. The pump looses prime and will not pump until it is primed again.

If you are wanting to replace the impeller because of poor pumping capabilities this may be why. If you are wanting to replace the pump for preventative maintenance. There is no need.

Brian , my Air conditioner won't pump water out the port side porthole consistently. In the past when this has happened I either 1. Turn it off for a few minutes then turn it back on and it sometimes pumps water. 2. If that doesn't work n, I put my deck hose into the A/C strainer to push water through the line. This time it is not working. If the stream of water doesn't look as strong as it usually does, can you offer a suggestion as to why it does not pump water consistently?
Thanks, Ken

Ken, first check is make sure the complete raw water side is clear with no blockage or obstruction. Make sure the strainer has a good seal at the cover.

Ken,

Have you tried back-flushing the entire system from the through-hull exit fitting? I do that every time I clean the filter (almost weekly) to make sure the pump is primed. My guess is that you have air in the system somewhere. Air bubbles anywhere along the line will cause back pressure that makes the pump work harder to push the water past the air.

I have this sprayer that I use to push into the through-hull from the dock. It has a rubber piece on the nozzle that fits perfectly. I spray for about 60 seconds. You will effectively be running the system backwards in order to fill it with water and get air out. The turn your system on and enjoy!
