Air Filter Replacement

Seems a bit expensive. It does not seem to reduce the decibels by that much either. I think I'll just keep the door closed. It will be interesting to see if someone has first hand experience with it and if it is worth the difference. here is a link for DBA ratings.

At the bottom there is this note: An increase of 3 dBA is barely perceptible to the human ear

Anyone want to buy a bridge I have in Brooklyn?

Anyone want to buy a bridge I have in Brooklyn? Only if there is no rent control in effect.

I too thought that the price was a little steep. I thought I saw the standard air filter on line for $125. or so.

Why Yanmar parts are so costly is annoying to say the least. These engines are bimmers that are installed in their vehicles. The 6BY is very similiar to what is in the X5. They both use the same oil filter - the number printed on the top of the filter is a BMW part number. As for an air filter they use a flat rectangular type filter that costs about $50 or so. Running an engine in a boat is a cleaner environment than running an engine on a highway or dirt road environment. In fact my previous boat had a Yanmar 4JH2 series engine and had NO air filter - none was required. It seems to me there must other options for air filtration out there. There was a previous discussion about an air filter cleaning kit from K &N. I'd do that before I'd replace it.

You can purchase the K&N kit at most auto parts stores or online. It comes with the cleaner and an oil to re-oil the element once it is dry. As long the filter itself remains in good condition it probably can be cleaned multiple times.

I bought a spare and I clean and interchange them annually.

That's a great idea.

I've been cleaning the air filter annually with the K & N cleaning method, but I know at some point a replacement will be prudent.
