Vesper Marine products have become quite popular over the last several years. Feature rich and competitively priced. Worth considering if you decide to upgrade.

Cheers,

We have a 2016 R29S,the AIS system that was stock is the 600 series, ours came with the transponder upgrade and it is tied through the Garmin VHS 200 series radio. The unit is located behind the helm, accessed via the forward head, behind the mirror. The MMSI number is assigned and is critical part of the Digital Selective Calling (DSC). The MMSI number should have been or was programmed to the AIS upon set up at the front end. An earlier post indicated obtaining a number or registering yours with/from Boat US, Sea Tow or US Power Squadrons - for US waters only. To find the number if your still looking, it will be available on the VHS, you should be able to locate the number assigned by: (at least on our 200 series) Press Menu key, select the DSC>MY MMSI you should hopefully see the 9 digit number.
Good luck and calm sea’s.

MMSI number on the radio was - - - - - - - - -. A search via boatus (done by them) came back negative. Same by the FCC.
We now have an official international MMSI number issued by the FCC that has been entered into the VHF 200 radio. Unfortunately our 2017 boat received an AIS 300.

We moved a Vesper Marine XB-8000 from our old C-Dory to our R25 SC we got last year and love it. Now that we're looking at a new R25-OB, I'm really bummed that Garmin discontinued all Vesper Marine AISs, other than the Cortex.

I installed EM-Trak B924 classB on my C26. Built in VHF splitter and internal GPS antenna . Very happy with the unit.

I just installed the Vesper Cortex AIS/VHF on my C-28. You can get an MMSI number from the FCC on the website, you don't need to call them. It's just a bit of a pain because their website is shitty and hard to use. It only took me about 2 days to receive it.

Let me know if you have questions about the Cortex. I think it is a good device, it is a bit pricier than the old BX-8000, which was discontinued, but it has more functionality. I am using it as my primary/secondary radio, AIS, and anchor watch to name a few.
