This post is not boat related. I have read a few blogs from those who took their tug to Alaska (that is so cool BTW). My girls Girl Scout Troop have decided to sell like crazy and save their cookie money and head to Alaska summer 2017. We are hoping to stay at a Girl Scout Camp near Anchorage. My question to the experts, any recommendations on places to visit? I want to take a cruise to the Kenai Fjords glacier tour out of Seward. Thanks!

Lisa,

Wonderful goal for the girl scout group, hope you succeed. We have lived in Alaska for ten years and recently moved and retired to the lower 48. I was also an eagle scout, so understand your program.

With a little research, you'll find there are five geographic regions (for example, tundra, coastline, urban(Anchorage), old growth forest, etc.) in the state and depending on where you will be, how long you are staying, what you want to experience and your types of transportation, you will have lots to see. Depending on what the group want to do (fish, hike, sight see, etc.) the girls might benefit more by focusing on just one or two geographic areas (south of Anchorage is the ski area and then further south the Kenai Peninsula). The glaciers are a beautiful cruise and in the area you could charter some fishing, hike, maybe pan for gold, etc.

Sounds like the group needs to research what there is to do around where you are taking them, like Anchorage (or south) and near the Glaciers to create a priority list of what they'd like to do.
