My 2014 R31 CB gave me a low battery warning this morning 25 miles offshore. The alternator seems to have failed. I was able to get to a mooring but I need to solve the problem.

Can you help me diagnose the issue?

My cell is 603-380-6000

My best advice would be to remove unit and take to any auto parts store for testing and replace if needed. Should be a quick fix!

a multimeter on the alternator could tell you if its producing charge at the right volts.

not knowing exactly the circumstances of 25 miles offshore; there is a possibility that the house batteries are dead or getting to their limits of age. (lead aciod/ AGM's?)

for instance. engine off, fishing. load on house battery; with the warning appearing on the Garmin, which is looking at the volts on the house and not the engine battery.

I had the same issue when I returned to the boat after dinner with the underwater lights left on. house batteries were old and not holding a charge. Engine battery could start the boat, but I had voltage warnings all the way home from the Garmin

Bob...thanks very much for your time. I have noticed a random black electrical plug right down next to the alternator and wonder if it might plug into the back of the unit somewhere. Can't seem to find a schematic that would help me.

It will explain the different wiring for alternators, hope this helps you head in the right direction for a fix. Bob
