An interesting fusion experience

This is on board a 2017 RT 25 SC. I arrived down at the boat today and all seemed normal. I leave it attached to shore power, battery charger on and the main house switch on to maintain the fridge etc. Engine and thruster are off.

I tried to turn on the fusion radio at the unit but it seemed dead. I then turned on the Garmin chart plotter, went to the audio settings and was able to turn on the radio. I then tried to turn off the radio at the unit but that wouldn't work. The unit stayed on. Of course, there is no way to turn off the radio at the Garmin. Thinking that a total reset often resolves a lot of issues I turned off the main house switch. All went off except the radio! I turned back on the house power and everything came back on as normal but I still couldn't turn off the fusion radio. As a last resolve I pulled the fuse behind the radio. When I reinserted the fuse I was able to turn the radio on and off as normal.

I just wondering why this would've happened and why the radio stayed live with the main house power turned off? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi Chimo,

Your Fusion Radio may be receiving power from the NMEA 2000 backbone and the backbone may be powered either directly from the house battery or perhaps the Engine or Thrsuter battery.

To check go into the Fusion settings and check if the NRX Power is turned on. That allows the radio to draw power from the backbone.

Certain models and software versions of fusion stereo units have known "lock up" issues when left connected to power for too long. Another potential cause of your mystery power can be if the power wires for the stereo were connected to a 24hr source (used to be common as a "memory" circuit so the stereo wouldn't lose the saved channel favorites), when fusion actually wants to be powered from a switched source. The NRX power setting and connection to the nmea network has certainly been an issue over the years with these boats, however I have yet to see one built with the nmea network powered from a 24hr source so I somewhat doubt that's the issue since you shut off the battery switches.

Mine locks up on FM. Only FM, everything else works well on it.
