An Ultrasonic alternative to bottom paint

Hia all;

At the Vancouver Boat Show there was an exhibit of http://westcoastultrasonics.ca They were selling an ultrasonic solution to bottom paint, which sounds great in terms of long term savings and environmental impact. Apparently someone noticed that the ultrasonic emitters in submarines never got covered with marine growth. They put 2 and 2 together, and developed this ultrasonic solution for small boats.

Has anyone had experience with this system?

Now that's what I call an interesting alternative to applying bottom paint every 3 to 4 years. If it's true that a simple power washing is all that's required to clean the hull after say 3 years then this system would pay for itself in that time period as its price is $950. Thanks for posting.

I looked at all the data and it seems very interesting. My concern is other than seeing a build up on the hull after it is too late, how would one know if it is working?

One method would be -- If you have diver periodically checking the underwater anodes then the diver can check hull condition.

Practical Sailor has evaluated a similar product and does not find the technology works.

On a power per square inch the submarine emitters will be tens of thousands of times more powerful than this firms product.
Were your entire bottom to have the same power per square inch as the submarine emitters it would stay clean.
However like the Navy you would be killing sea life nearby.
