Hi there

We are looking forward to the Rendevous in Roche in a couple weeks and have planned to trailer up from Oregon and launch at Anacortes. Researching around a bit it appears there are a few options - and the only launch option in Anacortes is by sling.

I searched the posts and they are a bit dated; anyone have recommendations? We will also be storing truck and trailer.

Thanks
Bryce

Hello Bryce:

You do have another option. We stored our trailer at North Harbor Diesel (360-299-1907 Dianna) summer 2013 and used there bot launch to splash Kismet. Things do change but it worked for us, give them a call. I think we paid $25 per month to store the trailer while we left our truck parked in the gravel part of the parking lot behind Cap Sante Marina.

We were up there for the first time from Corvallis at the Poets cove trip earlier this year. Our first trip to San Juan's. The most harrowing part was the trip up there trailering the boat, R25sc with trying to avoid the traffic both through Portland and Seattle.

The accommodations at Anacortes were great. They provided parking for $5. a night in a lot that had video surveillance. The sling costs were $70. for both put in and retrieval. I would pay this rather than off load from trailer anytime. You should book a guest slip in advance, I think "C" dock was very close to the put in sling. Fuel is close by. It is an easy walk to town. Have the crab cakes at Adrift about 6 blocks from Harbor. Best I have ever had. It was one of the best run Harbors in the San Juan's, and we went to almost all of them on the last trip. I was there for just shy of 30 days.

Have fun. The weather and fishing is too good down here out of Newport to go to the Roche trip so we opted out. But you will have a great time.

If you would like a more peaceful and cheap alternative, head up to Bellingham. This is our favorite launch spot. There is a nice wide ramp (no drama) and you can leave your truck and trailer there indefinitely just for the price of the launch. It is an easy trip to Roche from there, too, given the speed of your boat. Highly recommended!

Just remember to use the truck route to the marina (north of Bellingham). Do NOT try to drive through town.
